no interior lights when doors open..?

So I come out to leave from a friends house @ night and open the door to notice no interior lights (like the over head lights, not the dash panel lights) on when i get in....is this normal? I would just look in the manuel but i dont have it here at the moment . Thanks,

make sure your dome light switch is in the center position.

Doh! ill check that first thing...btw idk if it makes a difference, but its an '02 GT lmt.
