Honda S2000 to LGT?

Hi gang -

Better make this a good first post

Basically I will be getting married within the next year and currently drive a 2004 Honda S2000 with 31,000 miles on it. Beautiful car, love it to death, but it just isn't practical for a daily driver. I found a 2005 Legacy GT with 39,000 miles for $13,900. Seems like a really good deal and I am seriously considering it.

My main concern is reliability... I come from owning Hondas, so even though I know Subaru is solid, I don't want the car to blow up when I decide to go stage II in a year or so. If taken care of, is the Legacy GT a pretty reliable car?

Also, it would be GREAT if I could get a carfax on this:

$13.9 is dirt cheap. The resale values for these cars suck. Great for people buying used though.

I love everything about the car except for the rattles, which do annoy me to a large extent.

Which one is faster...Stage 2 LGT or S2000?

My friend has an 330i, and my auto stg2 LGT can win in a straight line race, but he sas the S2000 was killing his car all the time in a straight.

my cousin had an s2000 and i have an lgt.

lgt faster no contest.

it's also safer, more comfortable and more convenient.

but the s2000 brakes and turns better out of the box.

i was actually choosing between the two when i got the LGT. sometimes i regret not getting the s2000 if i have girl company but 365whp makes up for that :p

car for sale. PM me!

a 5mt lgt is about the same as an s2000 in a straight line... the power is delivered at drastically differnet rpms thou... which might freak you out a bit. but after owning a car with no go below 6k you will love the push the lgt has at 3k. You will miss the s2k no doubt... especially when you take that first corner...

But for 13,9 you are practially stealing the car... there must be something in this cars past that reflects the price.

I just made the transition from an S2K (an AP2) to an LGT (Spec.B, in my case), and dr_sharp's comments are spot on.

No more high-rev blast-off; indeed, the 6.5K red line seems awfully low (although, because my car's new, I haven't been pushing up there). But you don't really need it, as the strong power band starts around 3K. Find a gear that puts you at about 3200, push hard on the pedal, and hang on.

But, as stated, you'll have the real come-down with the handling. The precision and quickness of the S2K aren't even approached with these heavier, taller, softer cars.

Still, you'll like the room, the ride, the visibility (sitting up higher, in particular), and less feeling of exposure when you're on the interstate next to an 18-wheeler.

And, if I were you, I'd wonder about the price, given the comments here. What's wrong with this car? HPH

The LGT is faster in a straight line. The S2k is just going to be faster on a track or twisty road though.

The price of $13.9k for a 2005 is pretty much right on. That is what I would sell mine for right now if it was for sale.

My LGT has not had any problems. Regular maintenance is all. Still stock power levels and it will probably stay that way for a while longer.

Personally I would keep the S2k, but the LGT makes a great DD and still is relatively sporty, but it is no sports car. What are you going to sell the S2k for?

Thanks for the input everyone - I did a carfax and it checked out. Was originally purchases in Arizona and has had two owners. Already had my dad test drive it as well, so looks like I am going down on Wednesday to sign the papers. Again, the only thing that concerns me is 39,000 miles, but it's not like I am buying a mustang, right? It's still Japanese engineering. Eventually I do plan on going stage 2.

Had a friend with a Suzuka blue S2K; I think it was an 03 and I drove it on several occasions. Car was a total blast to tear up New England roads. The GT can deliver the same handling performance with a little aftermarket work and definitely delivers the power with all the comfort attributes of a sport sedan.

As far as reliability, I had a sudden grind occur in reverse at 10K but the transmission was replaced with a completely new unit by SOA and they gave me a full coverage 100K mile warranty on the entire car. Aside from that, never had any issues and any minor maintenance issues are always cleared up by the dealership with no issue. Good luck.

39,000 is low-average miles for the age of the car, and for a Subaru it's almost nothing, really. I would wonder why the car would have two owners in such a short time. Gas mileage? Or something else?

I'm certain the LGT stg2 (auto or manual) is faster than a N/A S2k. Dunno about the supercharged/turbo-ed ones.

I'm looking to get into an S2K as a 2nd/summer vehicle....love the Suzuka Blue and White with red and silverstone with red interior....gotta find me a low-mileage one for a good price.

Any one wanna explain which year S2ks are better and difference between AP1 and AP2?

Posted
Main difference between AP1 and AP2 is the engine, AP1 has a 2.0 and AP2 has a 2.2. Same HP, the 2.2 has a 1000rpm lower redline and is supposedly better to drive because it has a bit more power down low....but only a bit;)

The LGT is faster in a straight line.

Incorrect. It's a driver's race. Period.

Search google for "lgt vs s2k"

You'll find a stg 2 auto LGT and an s2k.

I'm a current Acura owner and will be buying a LGT this year. I can tell you that Honda/Acura is no more reliable than other Japanese brands. As a matter of fact, I rate my TL below average and is worse than my Mitsubishi I had 18 years ago.

Honda/Acura is not what it used to be. I will not buy another Honda/Acura and will advise others not to.
