Not my favorite but...

Last week I had a chance to spend a little time in one of these. Needless to say I was very impressed with the power, handling and build quality.

Now, if I only could get my wife to get a second job I just might be able to make the lease payments…

I like BMW. I think they have some great stylings and I do like the build quality inside. I think the 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 series sedans and coupes are all beautiful cars. I really love them. I contemplated trading in the LGT for a 335 on lease, but the rates weren't really reasonable.

However, they are ridiculously overpriced! They like to option you up on everything, and your 33k base price car can easily reach 50k. Its so disgusting its silly. BMW should take a cue from other luxury manufacturers and have fewer options and more standard features. Especially since they call it "The Ultimate Driving Machine".

Go Cardinals!

They have pretty much broken the ugly stick with all the whacking they have done to their entire car line. I wouldn't buy one even if I wanted to spend that kind of money (I can afford it, but I want to retire some day).
It is still ugly.

The price is high. The one pictured in the original post was stickered at 68K... It had all the options.

68 K? not quite apples to apples but you could get 2 LGT's for that price and not have to switch wheels every season change.

Looks like a German Pontiac. Sorry, I know I'm supposed to be impressed, but it seems way overpriced, overstated and ugly.

I love the roof line of the 6 series. The rear treatment is even growing on me.

But the front end is still bad, and the car is just big. Like making the 850i look normal size, big. The headlights are far to small, low on the belt line, and much too far apart.

The M3 isn't as sleek, but a better size with a more compelling engine, but more boring looking in the details and profile.

I have to say I like the carbon fiber roof treatment, though. I always like the blacked out roof treatment between A-C pillar arches, though.

BMWs used to be nicely square, and a bit unique by it. Now there are angles and line bends for the sake of it. "Flame surfacing", as they call it.

The E90 3 series itself seems long, tall and narrow, with amorphous details, like headlights and tail lights. The sinister nature is a shadow of what it was. The front and rear M3 bumpers try, but it isn't enough, and they aren't straight either. The sagging central intake and rear diffuser are soft looking, too.

Could be great, ends up being passable, and it is easier to say that the price is too high for just passable.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage is a much more compelling car, even if it isn't more than a match for the V8 M3. It is better looking, and at that level, why not? ALL of the cars at that level are superior to 90/100 drivers that will get behind the steering wheel, anyway, why not get the one that looks like the car equivalent to a supermodel?

I'll stay right here with my opinion, thank you very much. If you don't like it, I know a place you can go!

P.S. That 6-series picture you posted resembles a whale on steroids.

have you seen an M3 coupe in person yet? The bodylines and surfaces are absolutely incredible. the whole car is sick, especially in white.

Not impressed with BMW anymore. Crappy quality for a premium price.

I can tell you from seeing/driving a new M3 that the quality is far from crappy. A Legacy is not even close to being in the same league, in any way. Even the mighty spec B pales in comparison. ;)

same thing with the 335xi coupe I drove. The fit, finish, paint quality, interior materials, etc... are fantastic.

The debate is endless. What car is visible through the glass window?

BTW, my boss drives a 650 coupe. That's an entirely different plateau.

Wow that red leather is way too bright, WTF! I do like the new 335 and M3. But the 6 series is way to long and bubbly for me. Although those deep dish rims look pretty bad arse. I do think BMW still has one of the best fit and finshes but I agree they need to have more things standard and not be jacking the price up 20K for options.

Oh indeed, I wasn't comparing a BMW to a Legacy. But in the two years we've had our 330xi more interior pieces have broken, flaked away, turned gray, etc. That is far from quality and hasn't been as nice as our A6 was....and the A6 wasn't that great either. For a $43,000 car, I expected more. Should have gotten another Lexus and it wouldn't have been an issue.
