top end and gears

I am curious if anyone with a six speed is able to crack the 136 MPH limit on their legacy? I find that "Merope" has no problems getting there but has plenty of "oomph" to go beyond that. I am revving about 5500 rpm in 5th gear at top speed.

 

WE WANT ANOTHER GEAR!!! If for any other reason than to rev a little lower at 90mph (my usual Highway cruising speed)

 

So I guess my REAL question is has anyone successfully swapped the 2.5 GT's 5spd for the spec B's 6spd?

You can get rid of that pesky limiter right quick. A little AP action, or probably any CPU flash...

 

Also, SOMEONE ANSWER! I would like to know about swapping in an STi/Spec-B 6MT for my 5MT. Prob have to swap the transfer case as well and make shafe adjustments :(

I talked to my service advisor about it when I was havin some problems with my tranny a little over a year ago. He was sayin I was gonna need a new tranny and I said why not goto the 6spd. He said I'd hafta get the tranny, new front end, rear end, center diff, driveshafts, axles.... etc. basically everything in the running gear.

 

The problem eventually cleared up, which worries me more than anything.

just flash the ecu and prob solved although I dont know why you would need to hit 150-160ish. I think it was edmundu who said the window seals come loose at 150+ :)

i believe the 5mt are govered at 130. mine would never go about that untill i reflashed stage one and then i hit 140 could probally go faster but wasnt chancing it

i've driven 155 in a Cobra.... i don't really have the desire to drive that fast again... unless on i'm on a track!

 

I'll second that.... I had a SHO Taurus and was playing late one night, just to see, and before I realized it I was at 140, with more power to go... then I realized... if I see a cop, hit a deer, hell hit a bad bump.... I DEAD!!! :rolleyes:

 

Since then I've limited myself to around 110 MAX

I was playin with cruise one day and it won't set above 90, but if you start at say, 85 and hold "Resume Accel" it'll take you as fast as you wanna go.

 

I sure wish we could fix that, there's a few roads in IN that I always do like 110 on and would love to just be able to set the cruise.

 

The stock trannies are governed to 136, if you flash to Stage 1, at least, you get up to 155. I've had my car up to 140 before and realized the same as vr4legacy that it's way to dangerous. And with the way gas is right now it costs too damn much.

Take a look at the Australia specs - they are all geared higher and all the 2.5T and H6 models have top speeds over 140mph. Both H6 and 2.5T manual Liberty SpecB models will hit 150.

 

US cars are geared low as the knuckle-dragger market demands fast 0-60 times. Just read this forum.....
