Ari_OutbackWagon Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I hardly ever red line this car as it has no useable power near that end. However, I've noticed when I make a hard acceleration up to about 5k RPM that I will see some smoke in the headlights of the people behind me. I know I burn a considerable amount of oil, but is that case? I just switched to Mobil 1 and I'm at 36k miles on the 2.5i PZEV.
SubLGTaru Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Does it look like this??? http://studio.solvecomp.com/isf_LStrack/P8153762.JPG
Jerboa113 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 most engines in factory ecu settings have a "richen the hell out of it at high throttles" way of thinking to avoid damage from inferior fuels and constant abuse. I know when I have driven most naturally aspirated vehicles in the past, any time I have gunned it I have seem smoke and a HORRID smell coming from the exhaust for a few minutes. I have not smelled this with my car, but my friends have told me that if I am in auto mode and I mash on it to make it downshift it will smoke a good bit. I dont know if this is normal or not. I have not cleaned inside my exhaust tips for a while (damn this water ban DAMN IT!) so it could have been residual powder from normal use.. I'm not sure. I'd be interested to see what other members have to say about this sort of thing however. wait.. wasnt there an article on here about mobil1=bad sometime ago? ehsnils Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Oh No! Not ANOTHER oil thread Go for the ones we have already... http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1664482#post1664482 As for oil consumption - yes - higher revs will increase the oil consumption. As for that it is different between engines depends on tolerances and wear.
SuperCleanLGT Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm not sure on this car (yet) but with other previous cars when at WOT the engine can bypass most emission restrictions as well as dumping more fuel=smoke from tail pipes. I see it when people try to beat me up a 2 lane hill on my way home from work sometimes. It is normal.
Fivspeed Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 ...I've noticed when I make a hard acceleration up to about 5k RPM that I will see some smoke in the headlights of the people behind me... Where there's smoke, there's HORSEPOWER my friend. Sounds like yours is extra strong.
SLegacy99 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I had that problem once....my clutch crapped out shortly after that.
Ari_OutbackWagon Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Well, I've pretty much read every thread about syn=bad and finally made the decision that syn=good and switched to Mobil 1 last time I changed it. I guess smoking is normal under WOT.
Jerboa113 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 dunno, the amount of time I have to spend at wot isnt very long before I'm going WAY too fast or a curve sneaks up on me that my "bathtub full of water" suspension cant handle. why would someone buy a $40,000 lexus and then burn the tires off it like that? thats too expensive a car to ride hard and put up wet. besides.. the front 2 wheels arent doing anything "The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men." - Plato
