tytek Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 During my lunch with a fellow LGTer saw this pull up to the restaurant. Snapped a pic with my crackberry. Car had mfg plates. Good looking SAV or whatever they now call it; however I do not understand the point of it. What are your thoughts?
jalterio Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 New BMW.... I think it is ugly and will fall way short of BMW sales expectations.
IwannaSportSedan Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 If Subaru can't sell an outback sedan, what makes BMW think it can?
chenc544 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 If Subaru can't sell an outback sedan, what makes BMW think it can? Because it has a BMW badge on the nose and they are calling it a crossover instead of a wagon.
BrownBoy Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 damn.So damn ugly...so pointless...is this really the same company that produces the beautiful m3 and m5?
fzanetti Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 It's more like a hatchback UTE than a wagon guys.... Look at the pics. Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA
fzanetti Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Review: BMW will once again introduce a ground-breaking idea to the world and the creation of a new segment with the debut of its all-new X6 Sports Activity Coupe at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show in January. The all-new vehicle redefines the very notion of a coupe - with five doors and four sculpted seats, a higher ride and loads of cargo space. It defies coupe conventions in one jaw-dropping look, combining coupe agility and SAV versatility, taking the coupe to a higher level. As the world's first Sports Activity Coupe, the BMW X6 will be available in two engine variants: the xDrive50i (4.4 V8 engine, 400 hp, 450 lb-ft torque) and the xDrive35i (3.0 inline six-cylinder engine, 300 hp, 300 lb-ft torque), both with Twin Turbo and direct injection. The BMW X6 offers unique features and performance ability in a combination unmatched by any other vehicle. The new BMW X6's design combines the sporting elegance of a large BMW Coupe with the powerful presence of a BMW X model. The BMW X6 comes as standard with BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive technology with electronic control for variable distribution of drive power between the front and rear axles, consistently adjusted to driving conditions at all times and in all situations. Featured for the first time as standard in the BMW X6, Dynamic Performance Control likewise ensures variable distribution of drive forces between the two rear wheels. Dynamic Performance Control incorporates an advanced computer control and an innovative rear differential incorporating two planetary gearsets and two clutch packs that enables the system to multiply torque on an individual rear wheel. The result is that Dynamic Performance Control can help steer the vehicle by directing torque to either of the rear wheels. Unique the world over, this cutting-edge technology is effective whether the driver is accelerating or decelerating and significantly enhances steering precision and, as a result, the agility of the vehicle at any speed. In fast corners with abrupt steering manoeuvres or with the driver suddenly releasing the gas pedal, Dynamic Performance Control serves to improve the stability of the entire vehicle, thus allowing the driver to safely enter and enjoy new dimensions of driving dynamics. Finally, on slippery or uneven surfaces, Dynamic Performance Control provides the further advantage of even safer and more stable traction. The new V8 engine with Twin Turbo technology and direct gasoline injection, is likewise making its world debut in the BMW X6. Displacing 4.4 litres, this eight-cylinder with maximum engine output of 400 hp and peak torque of 450 lb-ft available over an unusually large range of engine speed from 1,800 to 4,500 rpm, is the most powerful engine ever seen in a BMW X Model. The new eight-cylinder is indeed truly impressive not only through its outstanding thrust and pulling force, but also through its compact dimensions. For this is the first eight-cylinder gasoline engine in the world to feature its turbocharger in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders. Hence, the BMW Sports Activity Coupe is an absolutely exceptional vehicle also beyond the direct range of BMW X Model competitors, ensuring unparalleled performance in all situations, regardless of road and surface conditions.
SunburnNYC Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I like it... lowered a bit with some wheels it will look sexy... this is the Q7 with body kit/lowered/wheels... there is a grill kit that is dope too... http://www.buscatuning.com/blog/fotos/marcas/audi/q7/audi-q7-tunershop.jpg
SLegacy99 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 New BMW.... I think it is ugly and will fall way short of BMW sales expectations. I think it will fall even shorter due to the fact that you can only get it in turbocharged 3.0L and 4.4L engines. Its gonna use too much gas for most American consumers at this point.
IwannaSportSedan Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Because it has a BMW badge on the nose and they are calling it a crossover instead of a wagon. I said: Subaru can't sell an OUTBACK ***SEDAN***, what makes BMW think it can? The BMW badge isn't a magic wand, and some 'overs' are just not meant to be be 'crossed.' Mostly just giving you a hard time, since you brought up "wagon" and I wasn't talking about a wagon. ------------ Pertaining to BMW's press release and BMW IS A COLLECTIVE FREAKING MORON!!!!!!!!! IT IS NOT A COUPE!!! Sport, Activity, Crossover, or otherwise. IT is not a FREAKIN' COUPE! The 6-series is a coupe. The 3 series 2-door is a coupe. The 1 series 2-door is a coupe, and the Z4 now has a coupe variant. This is not a coupe. Can't people get their damn bodystyle classifications right????
IwannaSportSedan Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I like it... lowered a bit with some wheels it will look sexy... this is the Q7 with body kit/lowered/wheels... there is a grill kit that is dope too... Wouldn't lowering an X6 just make it a 5-series with no rear headroom, and defeat the point? What little of a moronic point BMW is trying to make...
BDII Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 This car will sell like hotcakes. watch. Need forum help? Private Message legGTLT
IwannaSportSedan Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Further proof that a significant portion of the population have no idea what they are doing the vast majority of the time. Between that comment, and the news... it is amazing that the human race hasn't destroyed itself already, with sheer stupidity.
pillboy Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 The BMW badge isn't a magic wand, Ummmm...yes it is. And I like it. Not that I will ever buy one. It is still ugly.
lilbrudder Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 i like it too, and it prolly handles like a ......well, BMW, what else can you say.
SLegacy99 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I hope it doesn't have those crappy runflat tires.
Meltdown07 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I dont hate it. Its alright looking, IMO. I like the idea of a hatch on more of the sedan body (more like the mazda 6 hatchback). Go Cardinals!
IwannaSportSedan Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 If this car were a BMW sport sedan with the 5-door body style, and a normal M5-like ride height... it would be quite compelling actually. But then it basically would be a slightly chopped 5-series with turbo engines. But the height, and feigning gesture at off-road utility, and BMW calling it a COUPE, which it is not... all make it either deplorable, or laughable.
