sexyRS Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Hi all, I have a 92 RS legacy, just got a chip put in and was working mint:cool: untill today the chip decided it was gonna kick in when ever it wants to...I was told that it could be a faulty knock sensor and fuel pump. So what I need help with is where can I find the knock sensor on these engines would love to do the work myself so any help is much appreciated. I am also looking at buying some yellow sti injectors...so do I need to change anything else other than the old injectors?? Thanks all.
ehsnils Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 It shall be mounted somewhere on the upper side of the engine. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of that in the Chilton book I have. (why are those books always leaving out the interesting parts...) Anyway - the sensor has a single wire connected to it, it's shielded, but the inner wire shall be white. The connector is a single pin connector on the sensor while all the other sensors has more than one wire connected. The water temp sensor has two wires, which is the sensor that you most likely can confuse it with. The knock sensor is named B19, but I don't know if it has any marking on it to identify it. And the sensor is connected to the terminals c4 and c5 to the MPFI control unit. c4 is shield and c5 is signal. I suggest that you first check the connectors for oxide. Since it's a '92 that can be the primary cause. Did you read any code from the control unit? Knock sensor has code 22.
Bdubs Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 This is what it looks like. This is off a 2.2, but it looks the same regardless. It's under the throttle body on this engine, I would figure its in the same vicinity for yours. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m257/brandon12284/IMG_0952.jpg
