The B4 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Surprised this hasn't been posted up yet. piggy backing on the previous video found here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1097949 This was part of the recap from the 2007 driving event. The video is truncated to fit the 10 min requirement for youtube. on a side note, when I dug up the old thread to link it, I was reminded of BryanH's issue with the depiction of the Volvo XC70 in the previous thread. My wifes 2004 XC70 has gone places that old XC70 only has wet dreams of going because of the revamped AWD system. Changing from a VC system to Haldex will do that. That is why the video isn't relevant and I am sorry you cannot understand that. Autoblog recently tested the new XC70 and had a similar experience as several of the videos depicted over the years. Bad weather is the reason most people want AWD, but we were disappointed that the rugged looks of the XC70 didn't carry over to off-road performance, as stability control and AWD neuter wheel slip by locking the rubber all together. We also had little luck testing Volvo's hill descent control due to the fact that we couldn't get up the hill in the first place, and we're not talking Mt. Kilimanjaro, either folks. This was more like a bunny hill. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
subienubie Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 hooray for the LGT! btw, what color is that car?
The B4 Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 hooray for the LGT! btw, what color is that car? Deep Bronze Metallic methinks [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
subienubie Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 methinks you're right unique color but not one i'd go for...but to each their own, right?
SLegacy99 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I don't buy that Highlander business. My mom had an RX300 with the same system and thing was a monster in the snow and icy driveway. I'm sensing some bias here.
Garandman Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Yup, I bought my [three] Outbacks to drive on a conveyor.... Who Dares Wins スバル

I'm sensing some bias here. Keep telling yourself that. You saw what I saw, it couldn't do it. End of story. Does that mean the Highlander is not a good off-road vehicle? No. But it does mean the Subaru is IN FACT better at sending traction to an individual wheel.
The B4 Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 I still want to see a 5MT legacy with center and rear LSD climb that with no VDC... That would be easier than the Forester since it's static at 50/50 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RobE Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Nope... this is the third time this one has been posted. I cant even remember how many times the other one has been posted. http://newenglandsubarus.com/
Bbc84 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I posted it one time, just about 1 week ago. Not sure if I was the first. to post it though. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1771877

RobE Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 the original comparison video was posted on youtube on Sept 24, 2006 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7dVFY5CxT0&feature=related]YouTube - Subaru AWD vs. Everyone Else[/ame] this video was posted on youtube on Dec 11, 2007 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t09ExAUgtyE]YouTube - All ALL WHEEL DRIVES are NOT created equal. Garandman Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Keep telling yourself that. You saw what I saw, it couldn't do it. End of story. Does that mean the Highlander is not a good off-road vehicle? No. But it does mean the Subaru is IN FACT better at sending traction to an individual wheel. Most Subaru Legacys are immobilized if one of the front wheels is up in the air. Yet in the real world they do fine so most folks don't care about some contrived test like the one shown. Most consumers would consider a real-world test like the Canadian Driver giant winter traction test to be more predictive for their needs. The Subaru did well but was not the only one. Many more Subarus have VTD and VDC than in the past, so they're more capable, but so are others. And tires continue to improve as well. Who Dares Wins スバル
Scooby2.5 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Really lets see what the non VDC subaru's can do. My 5 speed outback xt does not have VDC
Bbc84 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Really lets see what the non VDC subaru's can do. My 5 speed outback xt does not have VDC same with my 08' LGT 5mt I wanna know too
The B4 Posted March 23, 2008 Author Posted March 23, 2008 Really lets see what the non VDC subaru's can do. My 5 speed outback xt does not have VDC It'd climb the front or rear rollers just fine... but it couldn't climb on one wheel. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
