eldiablo Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 A friend of mine (who only buys brand name goods) said he ordered a Mercedes. "What model?" I ask. "Mercedes smart car", he replies. Now I wish him well with his purchase and I didn't want to burst his ego bubble so I didn't go there... I realize the relationship between Daimler and smart... but to call it a Mercedes??? Thoughts? My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair
Knight705 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 i thought mercedes has a smart car like vehicle for european market? the a class i believe it was called?
eldiablo Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 Yeah. Mercedes A-class definitely considered a "true" Mercedes since it was engineered / assembled by Mercedes Benz. Even wears a Mercedes badge. I don't believe the smart will wear such badging. My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair
Penguin Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Would your friend buy a bag of shit with a BMW or Mercedes badge on it? If so PM me, and I can arrange to sell him a few bags of poo for $500.00/bag.

He said it was the right thing to do since it carries a lifetime warranty... what's the warranty on your poop? My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair

He said it was the right thing to do since it carries a lifetime warranty... what's the warranty on your poop? If he is dissatisfied in any way, I will either repair or replace the poop for the remainder of his life or mine. Tell him that it is an excellent accessory for a diaper bag.
chenc544 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Smart Car is a division of Mercedes, like Mini is a division of BMW. Would you call Mini a BMW? I personally wouldn't but whatever floats his board I suppose.
SunburnNYC Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 True Lorinser makes performance parts and body kits for it! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorinser http://images.worldcarfans.com/articles/2007/11/5/9071105.010/9071105.010.1M.jpg http://www.dubdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/lorinser_smart_fortwo-02.jpg
Scotty Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 You should tell him that a year ago, the Smart car was a Chrysler.

CTlegacy06 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 The new generation Smarts are using a Mitsubishi engine... so he's actually driving a Mitsubishi. That will really float his boat good. The redesigned smart fortwo has been available since January 2008. Numerous changes were made, as compared to the European smart. Its turbo-charged Mercedes Benz powerplant was replaced by a non-turbo Mitsubishi engine, the EPA mileage was expected to drop by 20%, the interior made more conservative, and the overall dimensions of the car increased.[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Fortwo
CarlJNgmail.com Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Smart is a joint venture between Mercedes and Swatch I believe
Gire Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 We've has Smart Cars up here for years, and they are often sold out of MB dealers. There is a connection, but there is no real branding that states: "Smart, by Mercedes Benz" ... or anything like that. I think most people are buying them for the exact purpose they are designed for; cheap and convenient urban travel. I don't think they are brand whores like your friend, Eldiablo, who want to tell everyone they meet that they are driving a Benz..
