hutru01 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I need to touch up a couple of my engine caps that don't have direct replacements (including the top of the oil dipstick, radiator fluid cap, etc) What is the best paint to use for flexible plastic, if any?
Livingtodie Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 any paint you find at your local parts store will be fine for stuff like that. the big must do is making sure you prep it how the can tells you to do it, all the oil has to be off it and if you have chips in the paint that is there to knock down the hard edge with scotchbright or some 400-600 grit paper. plastic HAS to be clean to get paint to stay on it.
Livingtodie Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 plastic paint that is, should go without saying. bbq grill paint might look goofy...
hutru01 Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 ^ right, I will just take one of the Mr Clean magic erasers to it before I paint, I will probably throw some adhesion promoter on it as well before I paint it....
SpecBee Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Last time I had to paint an automotive plastic part, the paint shop where I ordered my paint (to a specific paint color code) provided an addative to either keep the paint elastic or for adheasion... It was back in the 80's so im not quite sure...
