Wow, really not a whole lot of open real-estate there.

Maybe under the right side of the gauge cluster, between the steering column and the stereo console side, behind the stalks, and the key, if you can find a place in there where it is normally visible, and can be reached.

Otherwise, maybe edge-mounted somehow in the overhead console, between the map-lights and above the rear view mirror, but that is a longer, harder cable run.

I mounted mine on the vent to the left of the steering wheel.

It doesn't effect the flow of air and it is easy to operate with my left hand while driving.

yeah not much to play with in the middle of the car. i kinda like the over head idea. that hadn't occurred to me. I'm not to worried about running the wires, due to time constraints and having a few other things installed all at once i'm paying some really good local installer pros to do it.

If I got this model, I've been trying to think of a good mounting spot. So far, though about just the left of the CD slot, or possible above the dash vent on the left by the a-pillar. Not sure yet, so this thread may help me if I go with this model.

Remove the ashtray insert and make a custom bracket to mount it. Would be easy to hide and see.

Have you done that before with the 3100? I think it's too big to fit in there. Am I wrong?

Edit: If it is in fact possible, since this is your line of work, would you be willing to produce one for purchase by us guys?

Thanks for posting the pics. Did you have to disassemble the dash to gain access to the back of the vent? Or just pop off the side attachment when door is opened? Also, how did you attach the unit to the vent? And, is there any reason you couldn't move it lower to hide more of the cord? And no problems with airflow from the vent?

thx for the pics bro.

I'm pretty sure this unit is to big to be hidden in the ashtray cubby unless it goes in side away and pops out and tilts up on something spring loaded :)

I have mine mounted to the top passenger side of my rearview mirror using a good strong piece of velcro. I have the self-dimming type w/homelink which has a large flat area on the top. I then ran the wires under the roof padding and down through the passenger side column. The brain is mounted in the glovebox behind the slot you usually stick the owner's manual in. I did it this way since I hate carving up the interior. ;)

If you are installing it with the adapter harness, you have to swap the red and orange wires on the adapter harness (both wires have fuses, one is +12v constant, the other is +12v accessory) for the unit to work right.

I'll post pictures tonight.

why doesn't the suby harness just work right out of the box?

Because its a generic one that happens to fit a Subie, as well as other vehicle makes. At least thats the answer I got when I EMailed Parrot when mine wasn't working right.

Edit: I should explain what I mean by "not working right'. First, turn the ignition key to accessory. The unit should turn on. When you remove the key from the ignition, the unit is suppose to remain on for a few seconds while displaying the message "Goodbye" on the screen. If the unit does not display the message, then the +12v Acc and +12v constant wires need to be swapped (on mine, it was the red and orange wires. It may be different on yours, so look for the 2 wires with the inline fuses).

I think it will fit! It will take a bit of grinding and smoothing. You would not be able to ever stick the ashtray insert in again. It would be modded permanently. You could replace the whole ashtray though.

It would run roughly 1.5~2 hrs @ $125/hr, shipping and insurance included. We would have to take a look to determine how much work is involved. It will not take more than 2 hrs.

Thanks,

The side panel comes off of the vent and the cord tucks up underneath. The cord is pretty thick so you will be a little limited regarding how tight you bend it.

The clip for the vent came with my bluetooth and can be positioned anywhere on the vent. It doesn't block the air flow (and I count on the heat during the winters up here) and the heat doesn't impact the unit.

Remember, I'm using a flash and my door is open so you see EVERYTHING including shadows etc. This is a very discrete place to put the unit, no one really sees it and from your driving position you will see it over your knuckles. Personally I wanted to leave any mounting points on the center console for gauges and the dash board is not an option for me.

I would recommend sitting in the driver seat and reaching around the car... look for a place that you can see the screen just by shifting your eyes (so you don't have to turn your head) and where it is easily in reached.

I haven't had anyone notice this when they have been in my car until my phone rings and I answer it and then they usually comment on how they didn't even notice it.

Good luck...

i also thought about screwing it on to the outside of the ashtray door, so that it would flip up if you ever needed to use that power outlet

I'm certainly interested - you've peaked my curiosity. Possibly for this unit of the Telephony one, which appears to be a slimmer design. Hmmm...
