snowfiend Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 today at lunch I curbed a rim for the first time ever. The bare aluminum sticks out pretty badly against the darker paint that is on the wheels. does subaru have any touch up paint for this that I can use after sanding it down, or should I just get a new wheel? im pissed
cmc032 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 i did the same thing and I was so pissed. I was parallel parking and grided my rim against the curb ... what a bad sound. I don't know of any touch up paint but if anyone does that would be helpful I know replacement wheels are quite expensive though

I don't know of any touch up paint but if anyone does that would be helpful I know replacement wheels are quite expensive though I wasnt even parallel parking, just pulling into a spot with a median thing on the passenger side. well a piece of concrete had broke and was sticking out so it just slammed into one of the spokes I parallel parked in front of my house every day for 2 years and didnt hit once, and now this EDIT: just found this thread, now all i need is some paint! http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82879&highlight=touch+paint
snowfiend Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 another update: I just got off the phone with the parts dept. heres how the convo went "parts department!" Do you have touch up paint for spec.B rims? "they dont make touch up paint for rims *click*"
Penguin Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 You must have a counterfeit Spec B, because real Spec B wheels are harder than diamonds and will not scuff.

Penguin Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 If you really want it done right call a business that does alloy wheel repair. Typically they come to you, take the wheel off the car, sand her down, add a filler, contour the filler, sand it, then color match the paint and airbrush it back on then clear coat it. Costs about $100 last time I checked.

It has been awhile since I had any wheels done. I will say that the results are outstanding. You can not tell the impact/scuff ever even happened at all.
longislander1 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 You might want to check things out with these folks. I've never used them, but I've heard good things on other forums.
cmc032 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 whenever I try to fix scratches or scuffs myself it always just ends up worse off. I looked at a website that sells subaru stock rims ... only for '07 models though. I think the spec b ones were around 250. You might just want to save up for those when the '08's right now or save even more for new rims.
Living Legacy Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Nice Chuck Norris reference, but you probably didn't hit him because you would have totaled your car-he merely looked at the curb and it broke apart from fear... And if you ask me about the rims, it sounds like you just got yourself a set of winter boots for the ride...time to upgrade to some summer shoes.
NewLegGT67 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Have the rim repaired. It is cheaper then a new rim. $100.00 is not bad. Touch up is good for small spots but large curbage it not going to look right. Plus, Subaru apparently doesn't have touch up paint for your rims. It will eat at you. I scratched my rim the first two months of having the car and trust me I could notice if from a block away. It drove me nuts!! Then I pick up stock rim/tire for $100 and used the scratched one as full spare. I'm probably the only person that has Wu-Tang Clan and Paul McCartney on their mp3.

I dont think 18" would work very well for winter tires. I would much rather have 17's to get a little more sidewall
NewLegGT67 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I am sure a full spare 18" spare could fit in the spare wheel compartment. You will probably have to remove the styrofoam organizer. I use mine to keep my supplies in. My full spare and organizer did not fit under the cover in the LGT. Of course, the donut now sits in the garage. I'm probably the only person that has Wu-Tang Clan and Paul McCartney on their mp3.
