johnboi85 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 ok i have a problem. i bought my car used and now its at the dealer getting the cooling fan relay recall done. they had to replace the ecu so they need the security id tag number which i dont have. is there any place i can call to get this number? my dealership is really giving me the runaround and my car stuck at the dealership. they told me that their trying their best but they had no luck in getting the number from japan or something like that. i need my car back asap. i only had it for two days and now its stuck at the dealership. thanks a lot. new owner, jon (former f-body enthusiast)
gianspi Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 That is very strange. I had my ECU replaced for the cooling fan relay also and they did NOT need my security tag. They just asked me to bring in my spare key so they could reprogram it. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.
johnboi85 Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 they asked for my spare key and my security id which i didnt have. so yeah, its been at the dealership for almost two weeks now
johnboi85 Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 i checked the manual on every page is nothing is written. car only came w/ one key and remote. this is starting to piss me off a little. i enjoyed the car for 2 days. took it in for the recall thinking it'll be a quick dealership trip and i havent driven it in 2 weeks. hmmmm...... anyone work at a subaru dealership than can help me out.
ehsnils Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Then the previous owner has stashed the key and tag somewhere. If you bought the car at the same dealer as you are having your car at now you should have them to resolve the problem for you. If you bought the car privately it's a different matter, and you have to do some tracking. But the dealer should be able to fix your problems without that tag. You didn't note how old the car is, but I assume that it is new enough to have an immobilizer. In my opinion I think that the dealer shall be able to fix that for you - even if this means that they may have to produce a new set of keys. I think that you should push them a bit.
blackfang Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 No need to worry. What they will have to do is call techline and give them the vin. Techline will in turn give the security code and the technician can finish the repair. We do it all the time and I give that code to the customer for future use if needed and key that into the customers service history on our database just in case if we need it again.. Without that security tag the ONLY people that will have it is Subaru techline. Have it towed to another if you can b/c they can't seem to put things together. GL with it... Rehab is for quitters.
blackfang Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 John, Call your dealer and tell them, they need to contact Subaru Techline to get the security ID code(they should know this). All they have to do is give techline the vin. We normally need 1to 1 1/2 hours to do that recall including the ecu, the relay, calling techline and programming your immobilizer keys.
