new04specv Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 ok, i just bought an 05 gt, and ive been teaching my g/f how to drive 5spd. she is very new and she stalled the car really hard. Anyways when she does that i think it blows a fuse, the problem being is that i cant find it. The windos and locks do not work... I have pulled every fuse under the drivers side dash. Is there a fuse that i am missing or another location besides under the hood. thanks bill
eldiablo Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Fuse #3 is for door locking. Fuse #26 is power window relay fuse. Not sure how stalling the car would cause fuses to blow though... everything else works? My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair
new04specv Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 all lights work, didnt try using the heated seats or cruise or anything, ive pulled all the fuses under the dash, and they all look good. as far as i know only the locks and windows dont work. is there any fuse that would include both of them(windows and locks)???
eldiablo Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Was the power window lock switch accidentally pushed in? It's the top most button on the power window switch cluster on the driver side door. That might be the cause of the window issue at least... My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair
gianspi Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Try swapping that fuse with another one of the same rating. I've had fuses blow that looked normal. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.
whobaru Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 The problem here is letting a GURL LEARN on your leggy. I couldn't watch it.
whobaru Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Sometimes a fuse can be blown without appearing obviously blown. A good test is either a test light that should read hot on both sides of the fuse or ground on both sides (not different on each side), or a multi-meter that does continuity. With a meter that does continuity, the absolute test is to pull each fuse in the driver panel and under the hood one by one and then test it for continuity rather than just looking at it. I hope this helps.

It's the top most button on the power window switch cluster on the driver side door. That might be the cause of the window issue at least... the lights that are on the window switches do not light up anymore, and ive tried pushing the button. thanks
eldiablo Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Sounds like you might have a wiring issue in your drivers door. My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair
whobaru Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Did you pull every fuse one by one (under the hood AND in the car) and check for continuity? If you don't feel like doing it, you may be overlooking a simple fix.
whobaru Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Also, have there been any recent electronic mods like an alarm installation that could have messed with something?
new04specv Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 ok, i found the fuse, it was one of the big pink 30 watt fuses. still dont understand what would cause it. the car has a factory alarm....i dunno, i bought 2 fuses today just incase it happens again thanks everyone for your help
whobaru Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I won't say I told you so. Seriously though, no problem!
new04specv Posted March 12, 2008 Author Posted March 12, 2008 I won't say I told you so. Seriously though, no problem! haha well it happened again, not sure what is going on...starting to get upset Bill
Kaycy Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 haha well it happened again, not sure what is going on...starting to get upset Bill Have it checked by a subaru mechanic and ask the previous owner what modifications they might have done to the car. Looks like you have some issues with the car already, hopefully no more.
whobaru Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Find out EXACTLY everything that fuse protects and search for clues. Pulling the driver door panel, for example, is pretty easy. I could have it off in less than five minutes. Back on in 6.

Bimmer Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Sounds like you might have a wiring issue in your drivers door. +1 Basic diagnostic methodology... look at what the problems have in common. In this case, they switches that don't work are all in the same place. Bust out the wiring diagrams (search "vacation pix" here) and check the door cords. I don't think that there's any connection to letting your s.o. drive your car. You probably owe her flowers and maybe jewelry if you blamed her for this... Ben
eldiablo Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Fixed yet? Dump your girlfriend? Curious to hear status... My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair
whobaru Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Dump your girlfriend? Curious to hear her statusFixored!
new04specv Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Fixed yet? Dump your girlfriend? Curious to hear status... I brought the car to the dealership, they couldnt find anything. They said they checked all connections, and all wiring, and nothing. Ive been with the girl along time, so I did not and will not dump her..I should but no....ha ha thanks guys bill
BigT Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 IF the car jerked during some stalls it could have knocked something loose, or cut into a wire somewhere. If you're blowing fuses that regularly it sounds like the car is grounding out somewhere. It could also be a bad fuse that you bought. I went crazy with some wiring in my house once after I had purchased two three way switches for the hallway and it turned out after like a full day that one of the switches was crap to begin with. Check with another fuse first, then start pulling things apart and checking wires.

I dont think its grounding, because i have beating on it pretty good, taking it to redline, shifting hard and fast....im just not sure thanks bill
