lossol Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Is there any interest in this? Deerkiller asks: I'd like something like this (GTBoost) that takes the AFR output from an LC-1 (programmable output voltage) but the LED's need to indicate numbers somehow, slightly different color for every point? i.e. 14 is red, 13 is yellow 12 is green, 11 is etc, say 2 leds per point? Doable? Need to really indicate 9-15, and off the scale either way. Deerkiller, It is doable. The GTBoost gauge acceptable input range is 0-5Volts. This would be compatable with the LC-1 Output. It would be a matter of configuring the 26 Leds already available on GTBoost to display the information in a useful way. Do you mean led colors similar to this gauge? http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/turbo/afmlc.gif VBG1 gauges available at www.gtboostgauge.com
crash Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I'd be very interested in this! But, I don't like the colors on that guage TBH... I think LEAN should be Red (cause that's BAD) Stoich should be Orange, max power Green, and Rich yellow although that may look odd (RED, ORANGE, GREEN , YELLOW) dunno.....
Deer Killer Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 That guage is too rough to be useful. 26 LEDs? how about 4 per point 9.0-15.0, one at either end for off the scale = 26. Are there enough colors to make this useful, i.e. I can see it's 10.5 at a glance just by looking at the LEDS? (Assuming one is not colorblind)
itsme Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 why not use a gauge like the innovation XD-1. It has the digital number read and dial sweep in multi-colors. Racer X FMIC for '05-'09 LGTs, '08+ WRX and '10+ LGT,'14+ FXT, and '15+ WRX TMIC Racerxengineering.com
crash Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 lossol, have you looked into a small digital readout with 3 digits?
Deer Killer Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I don't want another gauge. I'd get the G3 if I really wanted to
lossol Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 You mean the XD-16? Maybe the interest is in a gauge that fits under the trip computer. Unfortunatly you could never fit digital number down under there. Heres an idea with the 26 colored leds... VBG1 gauges available at www.gtboostgauge.com
Deer Killer Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 The most important range is 9-15 though. I figure you have blue and white to help too.
crash Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 You mean the XD-16? Maybe the interest is in a gauge that fits under the trip computer. Unfortunatly you could never fit digital number down under there. Heres an idea with the 26 colored leds... I'd use the LC-1's 0-5 output as a basis for the scale, and remember that the "Good" range for AFR's does not follow whole numbers so making 14-15 AFR green would not make sense....
Deer Killer Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Do you really care if your running exactly 14.7? I only care about the mixture when on the throttle.
lossol Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 an LC-1 is just is output votlage given an input based on rules you can program, (AFR = Voltage) is this correct? Then the modified GTBoost gauge would just be a fancy volt meter that fits under the trip computer? I guess the idea is quick visual indication that your AFR is good. still right? Deer Killer Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Yes! slope is programmable, and yes. I mean I'd like to be able to see that I'm running close to my fuel map AFR, which for most people is between 10.5 and 12.5. 12.5 is too lean without meth so I'd like to be able to tell that at a glance.
lossol Posted March 12, 2008 Author Posted March 12, 2008 How quickly does the AFR value change? Rapidly? VBG1 gauges available at www.gtboostgauge.com
Deer Killer Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 LC-1 output response can also be programmed. I think you're ok without any filtering, but only one way to find out.
lossol Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 Ordered some LEDs to try out for this type of gauge. Will post some pics later, have to re-arrange some software. VBG1 gauges available at www.gtboostgauge.com
LittleBlueGT Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 I gotta venture out of the tuning forums more often. This is cool. I wonder if it would work for my PLX WB? I will have to look at the 0-5volt output it has. Full tune of 68HTA, KSTech 73 MAF, Racer X FMIC and ID1000s................by the DataLog Mafia!!!
ShadowImg Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 +1 -- would be a nifty combo to have like AFR up to and Boost down at the bottom using similar styles. Guessing this never really made it anywhere though?
lossol Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 so far this went nowhere...seems to be little interest VBG1 gauges available at www.gtboostgauge.com
j255c Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 im using the lc-1 w/ a x-16 red gauge works well. 06 TB EVO IX SE stock turbo monster subaru hater
ShadowImg Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 so far this went nowhere...seems to be little interest I think the biggest challenge for you on this one would be that an AFR doesn't read like boost, so rather than sweeping up/down from a 0 point, the LEDs need to migrate to specific locations. If I end up with a wideband in the future I'd be happy to work with you on it. Nowhere in my immediate plans though I'm afraid.
Gator GT Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I'm interested to see where this would go. Great work on the boost gauge. Very innovative! "If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed." - T. Jefferson

Underdog Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Hey Lossol... I wanted to resurrect this thread because I just replaced my GTBoost gauge with an STi gauge pack and I could use something exactly like this to display the output of my LC-1. Also, I really like your craftsmanship with the GTBoost gauge. I see it as 27 LEDs being divided like so: BRBBBRBBBRBBBRBBBRBBBRBBBRB First red to last would be the 9-15 range, 4 LEDs per digit, and then the far left and right being outside the normal range. I really liked the blue/red scheme because it seamlessly blended into the stock instrumentation. If you can't pack an extra LED on the board, or don't want to respin the board itself, maybe a different combination would work. The Crimson Dynamo
