Lol its not the same interior, and at 4000lbs it would still run low to mid 13s and be a comofrtable ride. The 05/06s were 3800lbs and i have seen bone stock ones with a good driver run hgih 12s.

Dont they use the metric system up there in the 51st state? So its like .4KM at a time? Or do you only have 1/8 mile tracks?

I like how you all say that, but when we compare other cars you will use 1/4 as a way to talk down on a car you dont like if it looses in the 1/4miles to the car you do like. Its funny, not to mention the new G8 and GTO will have IRS and all the goods to give them 50/50 weight distribution. So they will handle well and you tuner kids precious skyline even weighs 3700+ now. Cars are getting heavier deal with it.

whats up guys, know that this is a subaru forum, i'll take my chance and introduce the new Pontiac GTO concept. they are talking about putting in a 6.0 V8 engine that the current G8 uses. about 410 horses, 360-370 horses to the wheels. pz

We're not going to the get GTO. It was a flop and won't be coming back. However, we will be getting the Camaro.

The next best rwd GM coupe will be the new CTS coupe.

Looks like a porker; 4,000 lbs ?

I'll put a party hat on it and it can share the "fat chicks with party hats" table, with the BMW 135i:lol:.

they do use the metric system, in the UK and AUS that is. the american version uses the normal metric system. my friend has the 2004 LS1 5.7L GTO and that thing can move (stock). i am sure that at 4000 pounds with a 6.0 it can get mid 12's. besides with the aftermarket parts, u will run low 11s if not high 10s. on the subject of interior, def much much better styling the the 04-05 gto's MUCH better. the side exhaust only give it more mean of a look too. if this car come into production in the U.S. pontiac struck a gold mine among american muscle car ppl

Just because a vehicle has 50/50 weight distribution doesn't mean it will handle well, case in point :

Ummm... Isn't that what the said about the last GTO that left us 2 years ago?

Like, I said we won't be getting a new version of the GTO.

Looks fantastic to me, but the weight issue is an issue. It also looks MUCH more aggressive and attractive than the older Monaro/GTO

I think looks, and american market compromises are what killed that GTO, sales wise. It just didn't deliver on the looks front, and the gas tank in the trunk as a compromise just didn't compete with the then "Newly-Retro-ized" Mustang at that time.

Why can't anyone build a car with this sort of look, and this sort of performance (a smaller, more efficient engine can be used, if the car is lighter) in a slightly smaller, much lighter package.

Why can't a coupe weigh as much as my AWD Turbo Legacy GT? 34-3500lbs... that isn't even truly light, but certainly lighter than 4000lbs.

i concur, the new gtr35 beat the m3 and the porch gs3. it had 8.9 i think on a 1/4 and that car has 470hps. now if u have a 410 hp gto with a supercharger that boosts it up to 500hp, intake,exhaust,re-mapping the ecu, u got urself a very very fast car, not even gonna mention new headers. if this car cmoes to the U.S. ppl will buy it the same way as ppl want the hemi SRT8's by dodge

People did buy the ls2 GTO, This car isnt really any different other than the body and its weighs 100-200lbs more, the 05/06s were ls2 6.0s with 400hp. They were nice cars i almost bought one. But i didnt like the looks, they kinda looked like a cobalt or g6 but slightly more aggressive.

nope. i think the line was : "brand new and re-designed GTO"

:D

I dont know why you think the GTO will never return, they will probably work on the new Trans Am first but the GTO left for a number of reasons, alot of people didnt like the look, and it was unsafe, the had problems wit hairbags and what not.

It did so well that they canned it two years into its production run for the US:lol:.

The last GTO wasn't a bad car, just very vanilla looking. It looked like a super Cavalier coupe!!!

Also they do have a big power and performance car that is lightweight, its called a corvette, these GM cars are big large cars, with big large parts, once they start using all fiberglass bodies and other lightweight material the price goes up. The were trying to keep the GTO and G8 in a low price range. The G8 GT is most powerful car for under 30 grand.

Which is less of an issue, since the Coupe60 doesn't look like a super-cavalier. The VE coupe60 actually looks quite hot.

But I pose my question again, why can't a decent, powerful RWD or AWD sport coupe, or GT coupe weigh in on the lighter side of 3500lbs, rather than higher, toward the two-ton mark. What is there that weighs the extra 5-600lbs over a car like Legacy?

Legacy has 4 steel doors, four seats, aluminum and steel body, with high-strength passenger cell, and gets extremely high crash test ratings in it's class. It also has AWD, with 5 drive shafts, and three real differentials.

Yet it still weighs 5-600lbs less than the full 2-tons that the Challenger, this VE Holden, and larger versions of the Mustang weigh, and the Camaro likely will, too. The lighter Mustangs are still on the heavier side of 3500lbs, and the G37 is ~3750lbs.

WHY?

A car company could design a coupe to be more svelte and less bulky if they chose too, they just don't.

I'm not even saying that they need to be pushing down to 3000lbs, or less. But 4000lbs seems excessive.
