JoeFromPA Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Hello all, Just had to share my excitement. We have received wife-green light for operation LGT. Negotiations have begun. Expected delivery is T-minus one month and counting.... I've loved this car since the first time I drove it in 2005. I loved it more when I drove it again in 2007. Furthermore, it will be replacing my wife's 2003 Saturn Ion. The Ion has been good to us, but it's chassis flex must've been benchmarked to a plate of noodles. And not spaghetti either, I'm talking angel hair. It's steering is so apathetic....it hasn't felt an emotion since it was first bolted together. It's 2.2 liter EcoTec may be bulletproof, but that's a curse not a blessing. Out with the old, in with the super smooth large displacement 4-cylinder w/ a turbine attached to it. In with a quieter, smoother ride with far superior handling, a respectable stereo, and oh so much thrust (in comparison). My household will have gone from a total of 340 HP and 280 lb/ft of torque to 450 HP and 380 lb/fts of torque. WooO Ok...thanks for letting me get that out. Joe
chenc544 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 in with the super smooth large displacement 4-cylinder w/ a turbine attached to it. Well, that super smooth part is probably debatable... Some have described the EJ25 in a cold morning sounds like an old diesel VW bus. Congrats on getting the wifey green light nonetheless.
JoeFromPA Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 Hahaha....chenc, I do feel that below 2000 it is more on the agricultural side (though smoother than my old 2.0 liter WRX engine of 05). However, once at speed it felt quite smooth to me Joe
Voytech Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Well, that super smooth part is probably debatable... Some have described the EJ25 in a cold morning sounds like an old diesel VW bus. Congrats on getting the wifey green light nonetheless. Noooo, you haven't heard my 1.8T golf on a cold start. 5 valves per cylinder really sound like a diesel. Oh, and congratulations on getting the green light from the wife! I was in the same boat in december.
05GT Guru Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I dont know why they need 1 more valve per cylinder, its a useless design and there are still under powered
SpecBee Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Congrats... Remember to keep that 3-5K in your budget for mods.... Hanging around this site, it will happen sooner than later....
RobE Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 My household will have gone from a total of 340 HP and 280 lb/ft of torque to 450 HP and 380 lb/fts of torque. WooO http://newenglandsubarus.com/
JoeFromPA Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 SpecBee - On the mod docket: Tint (20 or 35%) Sway bars Short shifter HID headlights Opened up exhaust (whether that be gutted DP or some replacement, who knows) Tuned ECU (Cobb, if their 07/08 maps get better) We'll probably just do tint, short shifter, and sway bars in the first two years...depends if the Mod bug bites my wife RobE - Saturn Ion and Civic SI HP/torque total...now replace the Ion, and that's what we've got Joe
tdoggydog Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Negotiations? Just go VIP. The extra $ you save can go towards mods.
TambourineMan Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Congrats on the Legacy. We got an LL Bean Outback in October. I wanted a turbo but my wife wouldn't go for the scoop. Based on the 335xi thread I guess I am just as happy about that - especially as she drives it. Thanks for oil analysis info.
JoeFromPA Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 I won't talk price until after I secure the car. I feel I am getting a very good deal. Joe
gf2020 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Good prices here: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82927 You can use these to aid in your negotiations.
Picture_Shooter Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I used to own a 03 ION Sedan 5-spd. You are going to see hella difference in the ride for sure. Even my used 128K 00 LGT 5-spd rode better then my ION did w/ 55K miles. My ION has sway bar linkage issues. The LGT is a totally differernt beast on the road from the ION. Only thing that had going on for the ION is no dent on the doors and insurance coverage is really cheap to insure. AWD is such a blast to have. This is my 2nd AWD Subie. You'll never look back to an ION unless you need something w/ cheap payment.
tachikaze Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 of the mods I've seen the "pinks" seem the best bang for the buck. Better control AND a nicely lowered ride is win-win here.
RobE Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 RobE - Saturn Ion and Civic SI HP/torque total...now replace the Ion, and that's what we've got did you fail math in school? http://newenglandsubarus.com/
JoeFromPA Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 did you fail math in school? Huh? What am I missing? I have two cars with a total of 340 HP right now. If I substract the 140 HP car and gain a 243 HP car, I will have a total of 440 HP. Right? Did you even take math in school, let alone fail it? Joe
mkaresh Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I dont know why they need 1 more valve per cylinder, its a useless design and there are still under powered A little more valve area, but even VW has realized the cost of the extra valve is not justifiable. Newer VW engines are 4v. Coming from the other direction, Mercedes and Ford have played around with 3v heads. Mercedes at least has decided they should spring for a 4th valve.
