I went by the dealer yesterday to get my engine pan fixed...it nearly fell off when I was on the 405.

Anyways, I was informed that Santa Monica Subaru was bought out and will be no longer.

Yeah, Reza held the dealer together. I was by and they said the land and buildings were sold to a private party. There is a possibility that they will keep Subaru there but they don't even know yet

I have been to the new one in Sherman Oaks on Van Nuys. Its actually a nice dealer. The showroom is sorta lame but their shop looks REALLY nice, they had some crazy WRX and LGT in and on the jacks and it looked like all the techs drove subys....

Sherman Oaks Subaru, the one owned by Casa is retarded.

they dont know how to change your oil/filter. When i got my oil changed there i checked it and it was half full. Antoher person i know got her oil changed and later checked it and it was at empty.

Well it looks like Reza was the glue that held Santa Monica together. Sad to see them close because there still are a few good people working there.

looks like I'll be going to Renick from now on.

we have Bob Barker subaru here in Carlsbad but they seem expensive for an oil change $40 bucks....

$40.00 isn't bad.

5 quarts Valvoline 5W/30W oil @ $6.00/qt = $30.00

Filter @ $6.00

Crush washer @ $1.00

labor 1/2 hr @ $90.00/hr

$30+$6+1+$45 =$82.00

Plus the dealership typically does a 27-point inspection at the same time so it's good use of the 1/2 hour labor while the car is draining.

I buy my Subaru filters and washers in bulk (usually 10 at a time) so I'm only paying about 4.50/.75 for the filter/crush washer combo

If you haven't priced oil lately, you're going to be very surprised if you do it yourself. Bought a 12 quart case over the weekend and it was $73.00 on-base, $76 off-base plus tax. My lift time costs me $3.50 1/2 hour plus my time too so it's essentially a wash when I add it all together. I could do it at home on jackstands but I like the idea of getting completely under the car to see what's going on.

Final analysis, if you can get it done for $40.00 that's a good deal.

You're just paying too much. One thing Wally World is good for is Mobile1. 5 quart jug is $22. I too buy filters 12 at a time;)

Good price. Unfortunately, I don't use synthetic. But I may check them for dino.

Here is some clarification

SmS was sold to Sonic (corporation) back in 2006. They came in and first thing was to eliminate 3 franchises. (Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda)

Rents in Santa Monica are Huge and there was no way for Subaru to keep up. There is no profit on selling Subaru's and the cars are very very reliable so they don't break down and customer pay services are minimal.

The sales droped to an extreme low #s back in September of 2007.

Sonic decided to pull the plug because they started to loose major money in salaries and rent.

Subaru franchise has been up for grabs since January. There were few players that wanted to buy it, BUT Subaru of America started to play hard ball. They did not want to pairup with any other franchise. So the interest was gone due to SOA's tactics.

Soooooo.... The place was not sold to nobody, Franchise was given back to Subaru and land is owned by Sullivan group which also owns Santa Monica Lexus, VW and Toyota to name a few.... They have intentions of fixing the place up, moving the VW to that location and bring in Porsche to where VW is now.

This is a Sad moment by any means. SmS was home to me for over 7 years. I spend more time there than I did at my house. There were many many good memories in that place and now.... It's all gone.

I left SMS in September but I stopped by almost once a week to just hang out and bring back memories...

Damn I am gonna miss that place.

:(

Thanks for the clarification Reza! That must be sad indeed.

On a side note, should I be worried about any of my paperwork?
