carbon fiber paint effect

has anyone ever tried spraying any of their body parts to make it look like carbon fiber? i was thinking of trying this on my front lip. i was thinking spraying a black base coat, then cover it with drywall tape, then spray again with a shade of grey or 2, then top with clear coat.

i saw this done on some tv show. they made a custom hood scoop for a ford excursion and painted a carbon fiber effect on it. just wanted to see if anyone has already tried this. i guess if you mess up you could always just paint over it again.

neat idea

that video has the guy doing some detailed work with that little airbrush, so i cant see it working for larger pieces that way

Only thing ricier than CF aero parts on a passenger/road car is painted FAKE CF parts on a passenger car.

$0.02

yah, CF is ricey but only when you over do it. i think if you add CF parts subtly here and there it adds a nice finishing touch to the car.

I agree! I have a CF rear lip/deck spoiler which looks so nice in contrast to the Regal Pearl Blue... I would love to have a subtle CF piece at the front of my car, too...

The lower front lip spoiler would be a fantastic compliment to match the rear spoiler... but the availability of a CF one is next to none... PLUS... to spend that much on a CF piece that is that close to the road and that susceptible to damage on a lowered car is kind of... well, it's not stupid, but kind of! If I had unlimited $$$... hell yeah... I'd by two of them, but for most of us $$$ isn't unlimited... and finding an alternative to match the look of CF would be a great idea!

I'm also considering a CF hood scoop, too... but that would have to be real CF because it would be in my line of sight all the time while driving! Having a faux CF paint job would not cut it when I literally would be looking at it all the time!

The paint would be perfect for the front lip though!

cool concept but i like how the unpainted sections was not masked out because that was alot of overspray flying around.
