No Backlight on the Stereo

Hi,

 

Just bought a 2005 Legacy GT Ltd Wagon. Love it so far, but have two problems.

 

First, there doesn't seem to be a backlight for the stereo buttons. I looked up some pictures in google, and it appears their should be a backlight behind the buttons and controls. Mine does not appear to work, and I can't figure out if there is a fuse or not. I thought fuse 16 (interior) might be the one, but it is fine. Am I right in thinking there should be a backlight, and if so, is there a way to turn it off/on somewhere (I already tried the increasing the illumination.) Something else I can try to fix?

 

The other problem is that pressing the panic button causes the lights to blink, but doesn't sound the horn. I changed the setting on the lock/unlock to be audible, but that didn't help. The horn works otherwise.

 

Other than these two problems, things are great. Of course I am 20 km past the bumper to bumper warranty, which they will probably honor; but its a long drive, especially if there is an easy fix.

Are you sure they're REALLY on, and it's not just your DRLs that are fooling you into thinking that your headlights are on? Twist the end of the stalk on the left side of the steering wheel.

 

The night after I got my car I drove several blocks cursing Subaru for not putting a backlight into the radio... When I got in the car I was in a parking garage and it was obvious that the headlights were already on... or so I thought... When I stopped, I started looking for the off switch, and that's when I found out that I'd been driving around with dim headlights and no taillights. And no radio backlight.
