Riot Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 So I have a new cat back for the Legacy that I'd like to get on this weekend. I'd do it myself but I think an extra pair of hands and a level area would helps things go a lot smoother. It's a dual exit exhaust and its pretty heavy all together. I have a set of ramps and all the tools. I can offer lunch or beer. If anyone wants to help Saturday or Sunday let me know, thanks!
Detslider Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 At your place? I'll help you if you help me. I've got one I planed on installing this weekend as well....
Riot Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 I'm in but I don't exactly have a good place to work on it. Maybe we can find a place to take care of it? Sunday should be really nice out - maybe the parking lot will be just fine?
johnAWD Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Jackstands help quite a bit. I did my perrin catback solo in about 2 hours start to finish.
Detslider Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Sounds like were in similar situations. I have a parking space to work with and no jack or stands either. Though I've done repairs in the parking lot before and I had planned on buying a jack and stands to do the install anyway. Unfortunately sunday is no good for me I'll be cruising with the Impreza crowd. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1445798

If I weren't going to be town this weekend, I could help you out, but I gotta pick up my car this weekend down in Roanoke, VA If you wait until next weekend and the weather isn't too cold, you can come down here to Fairfax, VA and we can put that bad boy on. I have 4 jack stands and a 2.5 ton jack stand. Let me know.

That would be cool to get two catbacks installed in one day. Riot- what kind did you get?
Riot Posted March 1, 2008 Author Posted March 1, 2008 Hey guys - sorry but I just got it done on a whim. A friend of mine who was originally supposed to help me came through. Thanks though. I have a Fujitsubo Super Legalis R and its pretty damn quiet.
Detslider Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 good to hear, I'm about to go buy the stands to do it here as well. You just reused the bolts off the downpipe right?
hutru01 Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 ^ Yeh, you can re-use the bolts, but use new gaskets when replacing piping.
Detslider Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Thanks for the tip about the gasket, I totally overlooked that. Damn those are expensive though!!! $40+ Anyway got it all done, took me about 2hrs, and cost be an extra $100 for 4 stands, a floor jack and torque wrench. I got a Magnaflow and without cats this thing is suprisingly loud. As soon I fired it up my roommate opened the window to tell me it sounds "gangsta". Guess that means it sounds good. The last set of magnaflow mufflers I bought really changed their note after they broke in; kinda mellowed out, hopefully these will do the same.

msb175 Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 good to hear you guys were able to find a time and place to get them installed!

New gaskets will prevent you from having any exhaust smell. They are very worth the $40 dollars you spend on them. We will have to meet up at some point now that my wagon is up and running again.
Detslider Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Definetly! I won't be at the BBQ but maybe we can catch up next weekend.
Riot Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 I'd love to see/hear some clips beyond what's already on youtube... thanks I plan to take pix once I get my aero parts painted. I can tell you its really quiet though. I think the car should've come this way. I think its maybe too quiet for me. The clips on youtube were not accurate in my case. I still have to do a downpipe, next week hopefully. I'll let you know the full review. Fit was perfect though

Fit was perfect though You don't happen to have Cobb sways, do you...? What I'm looking for in a CBE is quiet, you know, sleeper until my right foot really gets on it. I don't want any attention until I want attention. You know what I mean?
Riot Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 This is definitely a sleeper exhaust. It does open up a little when you're on boost, so it sounds like what you want.
Billy Dagwood Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Yeah, it's starting to...so the question is where did you get it? (and does it cost as much as I think?) The reason I ask about the sways is that I was pretty convinced about the SPT exhaust, but apparently it has some fitment issues with the cobb sways I have. What is your suspension setup?
Billy Dagwood Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 oh, and Riot, how big are your tips? I've been looking around online but haven't been able to figure out if they're 3" or 4"
Riot Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 It's pretty expensive, the cheapest I could get was $1,279 from Gruppe-S but they had a 6 - 8 week wait time. You could also ask Japan Parts for a quote. I tried but Graham never got back to me on the price. I'll give you the part number if you need it, just PM me. I want to go w/ sways, cusco or whiteline probably, but I haven't done that yet so I can't tell you any fitment issues. I plan to go w/ Bilstein HD w/ Swift springs in a few weeks, I'll be nervous to back into a spot w/ a curb after that. I'm pretty sure they are 4" tips.
Billy Dagwood Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 that's a little big for my tastes ... I want 3" circle tips, I think. Let me know when you have pics
