Radik Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Hi all, newbie to the forum, so please excuse any ignorance. Anyway, here's my story. Later on this year I will be buying a next vehicle. I wanted to get a 02 - 03 Impreza, as it has always been a favorite of mine. However, the only thing detering me from getting it, is it's aggressive styling. It's a beautiful vehicle, but draws the wrong attention at times, cops and thieves. From the time I saw the 05 legacy however, I thought it was one of the most attractive cars out there. Simply said it's beautiful. Now here's my problem, as much as I love the looks of this car, the one factor preventing me from getting it, is the issue with upgrading the H/U with an aftermarket one. I am a serious audio enthusiast, and I know you can retain the stock H/U and use a RF 360, or Cleansweep or Navone Loc, etc, but I rather the control I have with an Aftermarket one. Before I thought it was impossible to upgrade, but after searching this forum, I've recieved mixed impressions. What I decipher from the search is that you can upgrade your stock H/U if you have manual climate controls, available on a normal 2.5. Is this correct? And if so, is it a simple pull out, and replace providing you have the replacement bracket? Also, when buying a used legacy, what are some safety guidelines to follow, like how much Kms I should stay under (I'm in Toronto), and what to look for etc. Thanx in advance and all help and input is welcomed .
Ryandigi Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 stereo stuff makes me dizzy, hope someone has some answers for you
welby Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 From what I've read the regular 2.5 models with manual climate controls are easy to replace, it's the stupid dual climate setup with the turbo cars that are near impossible. I've always put in aftermarket stuff with all of my cars, but I've pretty much resigned myself to leaving the stock setup alone on my LGT. I'm going to look into doing an aux in, but that's it... Oh and use a LOC to hook up my amp and sub. *shrug*
Radik Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 Hmmmm, anyone else with any ideas? I went to the dealer and he was clueless...
fonts Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I'm definitely not a stereo guy first of all. But if you are interested in performance and ability to upgrade/modify your car in the future buy the LGT. Don't get a 2.5i at the expense of performance for just a stereo. Just my $.02
Ryandigi Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 did the non-limited lgts come without the dual climate? If so then you could have the best of two worlds (not three worlds though since leather is out of the question)
sexylegacy Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 ^^^No. Non-limited's have dual climate zones. I have seen custom made stereos that separate the dual HVAC and stock radio and leave a single-din opening and also 3 gauge openings, but it is apparently very hard to do. What I have experienced however is much easier and leaves all the stock setup alone. What you need to do is buy an info relocate kit that moves the little computer and time readout that's underneath the cubby to the ashtray underneath the HVAC controls. Then you buy an AVO double-din bezel and replace the cubby with that. Then you can add something like the Pioneer AVIC touchscreen Nav system and hard drive and bypass the stock stereo and run everything through that. On this board, the member named googalash has this setup and it looks amazing. He just leaves the stock radio off and the stock dual HVAC controls work fine. My advice, get the GT and do this mod. It's not very hard, just a little spendy, but it's definitely the way to go.
CTATV Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 check these threads out::: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79026&highlight=HCA http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74919&highlight=HCA I too am a sound enthusist. in this car im going to go with the stock radio mod that adds RCAs to the back of my unit. I have a spec.b that came with the 6cd MP3 player and stereo controls on my steering wheel so I just want to be able to run it all to afermarket amps so I can power my speakers and sub as I have all the other equiptment from my previous car (Memphis M-class componenets to Kicker ZX 200watt amp & 15" Kicker L7 to 500 watt memphis D class amp Hi all, newbie to the forum, so please excuse any ignorance.
