tech86 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 just some wrx parts i had left over, here are some pics (cellphone)of it on the outback http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c376/FD13B/0226081249c.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c376/FD13B/0226081249b.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c376/FD13B/0226081249a.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c376/FD13B/0226081249.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c376/FD13B/0226081248.jpg
NickB34 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Are you sure that does much good?? All of the restriction is in the box that you connected it to...
JOE_1985 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 box actally isnt much of a restriction if you read up on it
tech86 Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 LT5PLA: sound's nice under load especially at high rpms NickB34: the stock air filter box and intake hose are really the most restrictive parts due to them being designed to silence "air intake" and the ass dyno shows low end loss but high end gains just like any other short ram intake so go figure JOE_1985: thank you for clearing that up! your 2 cents is more than appreciated
smushybrain Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Do you have any brackets holding that up? I couldn't tell from the pictures. Does it rattle or rub on anything?
Alighieri256 Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 MotherF!!!! How come the NA guys get an aluminum manifold and we have this cheap jank ass plastic POS?!?!
JayMitch2.5i Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 lol yea whats the deal with that. but come on its not like we na guys have much to brag about. By the way nice short ram intake!
tech86 Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 smushybrain: no need for brackets since the samco hose is so freakin stiff! no rattle or rubbing of any kind it doesn't move! Alighieri256: haha ask Subaru.......... JayMitch2.5i: thank you sir!
LT5PLA Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 What brand is that maf pipe that the maf connects to?
Viking067 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Looks good, but why take hot air from the engine bay?
tech86 Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 LT5PLA: the maf pipe is made by APEXI Viking067: thanks but like any other short ram intake they all take hot air from the engine bay if you want cold air then go with a CAI
showvo5 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 i just did this same thing to mine. sounds no where near as good as if you take the black box off.
boymk123 Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 lol yea whats the deal with that. but come on its not like we na guys have much to brag about. By the way nice short ram intake! the deal is it will generate hot air from the engine not the cold air from outside... sorry, I think this is a lame mod...
GEE-OTTO Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Are you sure that does much good?? All of the restriction is in the box that you connected it to... That box isnt a restriction at all you only want to what this guy did at most on the MAF based N/A's should be good except i would try to get it ducted to the fender so you can get some type of cooler air versus the warm ambient engine bay air
GEE-OTTO Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 MotherF!!!! How come the NA guys get an aluminum manifold and we have this cheap jank ass plastic POS?!?! UM your cheap "jank" ass intake is less prone to heat soak than our cast intake manifold
captainhook Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 UM your cheap "jank" ass intake is less prone to heat soak than our cast intake manifold Correct, and a lot lighter.
Ravengage Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 MotherF!!!! How come the NA guys get an aluminum manifold and we have this cheap jank ass plastic POS?!?! I am actually considering placing phenolic spacers to dissipate heat soak as a result of my "great" aluminum intake manifold. So I guess you could say I envy your cheap "jank" ass plastic intake!

So I guess you could say I envy your cheap "jank" ass plastic intake! Actually, I have tried""phenolic spacers"". Not much physical effects but caused turbulence and some flying idle after installation. Also, the intake setup w/ the OEM torque box in front of TB is the best setup I've ever tried. If you remove the OEM torque box and have the CAI connect onto TB directly, you will lose all your torque at low end. Here is a setup I had before http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113305 Panson

I know Rallitek recommends new gaskets on each side to sandwich the spacer in place. Was just trying think about why you had turbulence after install....

Sorry, I didn't even get a chance to take the pictures and my car got totaled because of the flood damage in my area (Houston, Texas) If you search my old posts, I had done some crazy intake experiment and tried to find the best setup to achieve smooth revving w/o losing torque. So far the best I've found is to keep the OEM torque box and replace the OEM filter box w/ a CAI ( or short ram). Personally i prefer CAI because it gets to suck in more cold air and keep the car not so loud while revving up to the limit. BTW, I do use TB spacer to gain more torque in this setup. 2. I used 2 gaskets (bought it w/ the spacer). I really don't know why, but I can clearly feel some air turbulan is in my manifold whenever I stepped on the gas which also caused my idle to go up and down. Panson
