iyalla Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Man that Skyline is sick Best quote "Its like a video game!!" lol Was it just me or was it much quieter in it than the other two cars. The M3 is a bloated, cushy car compared to those two machines, it was out of its league on this test. What was with the brakes on the M3???? Makes me wonder about that stupid kid that killed his friends with the M5, are the brakes that horrible on M Bimmers?? The guy had no brakes left He really looked disappointed about his M3. Its one thing for the Japanese to do boring appliances and also try to take on the pick up truck field, BUT its quite another to do track performance and do it better than the Germans.
chenc544 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 "It's still a Nissan" That just goes to show you that those BMW-philes bought their cars for image not because they believe it's the best car for the money. Heck, even the 911 is just a VW Beetle at it's root, but that doesn't mean it's not a damn good car. Although apparently it's not as good of a car as the GT-R... Watched Fifth Gear's GT-R test drive last night. They gush all over it but there really wasn't a whole lot of substance to their review, somewhat disappointing. I guess I would just have to wait for the Stig to take it around the Top Gear track to get my fix. Saving my money for the v-spec now...
05GT Guru Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Lol the new GTR is a cool car, i wish the price tag was a bit lower but they are making it a world wide supercar so i guess in the world of super cars the price aint bad. About the same as a viper or Vette but still a whole lot cheaper than lambos or ferrari, its a good car i just wish they stayed with the inline 6, soo much more reliable for high boost applications. The Rbs were nissans best engines hands down

About the same as a viper or Vette but still a whole lot cheaper than lambos or ferrari, Personally I think $70k is dirt cheap for something that's in the same class as 911 turbo/GT3. its a good car i just wish they stayed with the inline 6, soo much more reliable for high boost applications. The Rbs were nissans best engines hands down It might not matter, Nissan is actively discouraging modding on the R35. They have been bragging about how uncrackable the ECU is. I personally don't believe anything is uncrackable but it still might be more than what the tuners can handle. They probably need to hire a hacker. The VR38DETT is only boosting ~10 psi, so there is a lot of potential there if someone can hack the ECU. I have also read stories about how you can't even put on aftermarket wheels without causing a CEL. There is also the GPS nanny on at least the JDM model.
iyalla Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 $70K is insane, $40K less than the 911 GT3 and and like $50k less than the price of a 911 GT3 RS. Corvette Z06 and Nissan GT-R are bargains, i'd put both in my garage over one 911 GT3 RS

AP for the R35 GT-R?

Even if i were rich i wouldnt be buying 2millon dollar cars, i would just get whatever i want and make it faster than a 2 millon dollar car lol
chenc544 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Cobb has a GT-R for prototyping new parts.... AP for the R35 GT-R? Consider how long it took them to get an AP to work with '07+ LGT I wouldn't count on them to be the first one to crack the GT-R ECU...
camber Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 Consider how long it took them to get an AP to work with '07+ LGT I wouldn't count on them to be the first one to crack the GT-R ECU... True... Although, they seem to be the only company out there that has been consistently cracking these new CANbus ECUs.
f1anatic Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Everything is crackable; hackable and reverse-"engineer-able". Let it be available to tuners and before the year is over, someone will have figured out.
wukindada Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I do like the car & it's "potential" ...It will be interesting to see what it's resale value is going to be. Just give me a 07 Z06 with less than 5k on the odo. they can be picked up for just under 60k & with 2,500 in mods are legit 500whp machines with a very low curb wt. Seriously guys......75-80K..... Toyota 6EATS .........SUCK!!!!!!
LEGGTLTD Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Cool video Megan header,Perrin TMIC, TD06-20G,AEM CAI, Lachute DP, Avo BOV, BC Coilovers, Magnaflow catback, Hawk HPS pads, Stoptech lines, Snow WI

Not sure where you are getting $75-80k from. The base GT-R is just shy of $70k and the premium is $72k, not counting tax and dealer mark up of course. Either way, the $12k difference between $72k and $60k is really just academic IMO when you are spending this kind of money anyway. The better question is if the Z06 and GT-R's 5-year resale value will be in ~$35k range. $35k will put it within reach of a lot of people's budget...
05GT Guru Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 You keep thinking about the z06 how about a ZR-1 with 2,500 in mods that car will make around 650rwhp, supercharged v8s are so easy to get power out of. A small pulley, some exhuast and a tune and 100rwhp gain is easy for 2grand in parts.

Guest Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Fixed for you unclemat. Not really, GT-R would be perfect "child left behind" kind of a car, so no need for wagon. But MT is a must.
PhilT Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Not really, GT-R would be perfect "child left behind" kind of a car, so no need for wagon. But MT is a must. It has a MT, you change with paddles not a stick. Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
Guest Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 It has a MT, you change with paddles not a stick. Again? It's not manual, gears changes are controlled by electronics upon user's input. No hand power is used to engage gears. So - still auto. Please save the tirade it shifts faster. It does, I don't care. You broke your MT, so I guess you would better served by a computer between you and the car.

Guest Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 and you still refuse to accept anything other than what you already know And it's ironic that a Brit cannot grasp the semantics of word "manual", in English nonetheless... Well, again, try to study it: man·u·al (măn'yū-əl) http://content.answers.com/main/content/img/pron.gif adj. Of or relating to the hands: manual skill. Done by, used by, or operated with the hands. Employing human rather than mechanical energy: manual labor.
TPLGT Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I agree..no MT no sale. I would rather have the Porsche....just a Porsche guy. They have been making sports cars for 50 years..Nissan for 1. Rehab is for quitters.
tytek Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I don't get the BMW haters... the M3 has its place in the market. I love the GT-R and even though never had a chance to drive one, always loved the previous iterations (R33 and R34 specifically). No traditional manual is not a big deal to me. Automated manuals (DSG type) are excellent, and I own one right now and enjoy it every time I drive it. Ultimately, if it is good for Schumi, it is good for me. No need to be a tranny nazi The MSRP cost alone would be prohibitive for me, so no need to make any decisions
