Dumbest Dealer Statement Ever

Recommended Posts

Okay, I just called the dealership I normally go to to find out what the 30k service package entailed. After quoting me $550 (about $100 more than what they said last time) he went through the list of what they would do. I had to laugh when he said that with the turbo model it was necessary to "burp" the system by removing the intercooler to get out all the air pockets, which makes it a bit more expensive and it takes longer.

*edit* sorry, this should have been in general funny.

No. The same guy told me that not only do they change the coolant, but they change the anti-freeze while they're in there. I just chuckled to myself and decided there is no way I will use them for any service ever again.

You should call them on their bull$hIt. I sell electronics, and our top salesperson lies to people who don't any better. For four years I've been waiting for someone to call him on his bullcrap. People that lie need to at least live in fear.

I kinda agree with you, and had we been face-to-face i might have called him out (much more enjoyable when you can see the look on their face).

Honestly, he probably did me a favor. I'll save money doing it myself and I'll know it was done right.

Who is this dealer? I know I'm not close enough to use him But, I'm sure other LGT'ers would appreciate the heads up.

And I'm sure SOA would love to know about this.

My dealer goes out of their way for me and all the others around here.

If I'm going faster than you, Move Right.

We had an RX8 dealer get his tidbit: "...we check the timing belt and adjust the valves..."

Name it. Let me guess - is it Cityside?

Nope.. although I used to use them until I moved to central mass and they made the new dealer look awesome by comparison. I've had good experiences at the new place but the last two times the SA has just fed me line after line of BS.

Here's my thought on the matter. If it's one SA who's feeding these lines of BS, and you've otherwise been happy with the service offered at this dealership, call up the Service Manager and let him know what's going on. Explain that you've appreciated the excellent service they've provided in the past, but that if this moron is going to continue to either tell lies or speak out of ignorance, they'll lose your business, and the business of the friends you refer.

I always got first class service at my Subie Dealer back in Minnesota (Brooklyn Park Subaru for those of you nearby) and the Service Manager knew that: A) I knew my stuff when it came to Subies, B) I appreciated the excellent service they provided, C) I always gave them excellent reviews on the Subaru Service Surveys (which they earned), and D) that I always referred friends when they asked my suggestion where to get service.

I once gave them a perfect review on all aspects except location and hours, which I gave a 4 out of 5 on both, and explained in the notes that I lived closer to two dealerships and one had much longer service hours, but that I drove past both of them due to the superior service at my Service Department. I got a personal call from the Manager after that trip.

If you feel strongly enough not to name the dealership, call the manager and give him a chance to fix a problem. :)

^ well put, sounds like a good idea, i'm sure the service manager would appreciate the heads up.

He knows he's there to make money but running the risk of looking like an idiot just isn't worth it.

I had a Honda dealership salesperson tell me the new Civic Si had a turbo that made it quicker than the LGT. He also told me there was no performance difference between the new Civic EX and LX. I swear.. sometimes these people are just dumb enough that they believe anything they are told and then they pass it along as fact. It is one thing to just give me bad information when I'm shopping for a car, but to try and write up a service order for unneccessary repairs is fraud and should be reported to the service manager. That guy is giving Subaru a bad name and hurting the resale value of everybody's car.

I have a cousin that is an excellent sales person. He's worked in selling home theater systems for a long time now. I used to always tell him he should be selling cars and he always said, "I don;t know anything about cars." and I always responded with, "Either do most dealers." Hell, read the brochure and you know more than most dealers know!
