mdbohica Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Ok, here are the symptoms. I drove the car today 50 miles, 10 miles on backroads, then 30 miles of highway driving, then about 10 miles of rural roads with 3 short red lights. The car ran fine until somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd stoplight then the temp gauge pegged. Also, I turned the heat on and it blew cold air even being that hot. I know these 2.5's are prone to head gasket issues but I am praying that it is just a sticking thermostat. Oh, and the car has 147K on it. Also, I noticed when I popped the hood, there is steam escaping from the drivers side of the engine, not the radiator, it was early in the morning and dark and I didn't have a flashlight, but there is some kind of leak there. Any Ideas where that could be coming from? What do you all think?
meier motor sports Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 sounds like a head gasket to me.
whitetiger Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 check the coolant level in your radiator, but its proll a head gasket.
SLegacy99 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Is there any white smoke coming outta the tailpipe? These guys are right, it probably is an HG. But if you're lucky you only need a new water pump.
dplacen Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I would check the water pump and thermostac. It probably needs headgaskets. I have done many on subies.
pheonix991 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Mine was overheating the other day. Last owners never changed the coolant, so, after my road rally, the thermostat was getting stuck, so, we changed it along with the coolant. So, change the coolant and thermostat, it is really easy if you've never done it before. I'm gunna say it isn't the waterpump unless your timing belt broke... Like other said, if not thermostat, it is head gasket.
