smoss Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Well, I have writing on here a lot lately. My lease was up within 2 months on my 05 LGT. So I tried getting some lease prices on an 08 spec B but the depreciation is so poor it would have been a lot of money over the GT. The GT would have been 0 down and same payments but I felt like I was getting the same exact car. I went to Infiniti (3 hours away) Saturday and traded the LGT in. I got such a good deal on the G I coudln't resist. It was a lot cheaper than leasing a spec B and only a little more than a GT. The deprciation on Infiniti is so muhc higher (55% or something) that the lease ends up being way cheaper. Also they gave me $2,300 (or so they say, probably more like 1k) from my trade in since the GT was worth more than buyback. It was hard to see the Subie go as it has been a great car. I just felt the G35x had a lot of things I wanted (bluetooth, smart key, very quiet ride and great power). I think Subaru needs to improve on the "tightness" of their cars a bit. Although I don't have the same faith in the AWD system in the G. Actually I drove the salesperson crazy trying to find any snow covered hill to check things out. I am pretty sure the Subi awd is slighy better. Although its hard to say so much was different. G had All season, the GT had snows. My GT was manual, the G is auto with VDC. When the VDC kicks in it feels like the car is stopping or stuck even though it isn't. Also much less feel with an Auto. Hard to get used to. Anyway, just wanted to say bye. I'll be checking this forum from time to time. The Subie was an outstanding car. About 80% of my reason for going to a G is simply for a change. What's the point of leasing if you get the same car. Also, the G is sligthly higher in price so not a fair comparison, even though the total lease price is very comparable.
Jerboa113 Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 have fun, but I cant say you wont regret this bells and whistles are nice but the only thing that comes close to driving like a subaru is a bmw. best of wishes in the future. That's funny. Think you mean Subaru doesn't come close to BMW. Infiniti drives very very nice. The G is very close to the 3. A lot closer than Subie. I hope Subie gets closer in the next model legacy.
NewScooby Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 enjoy it! You definately got a better looking car
Jerboa113 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 maybe the G you drove and the 3-4 Gs I've driven are made by different plants.. cos the ones I drove handled like a feather pillow. to be fair however, the ones I test drove had the rubber band CVT transmission. you know the whole "keep it forever BELOW the power range" transmission. f1anatic Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 One thing I find funny - the people who say "Good Bye" are the ones that are NOT active posters and are largely unknown by the forum regulars. We had this going last week, and the week before that several times. Definitely I wish any former Suby owner the best of luck in all his/her future endeavors but if we don't recall you on the forum by user name, chances are nobody is gonna miss you anyways.

I do a lot more reading than posting. I am actually on here a lot. Didn't know we had a competition going here. Still have no idea who you are with all your posts.... lol Anyway, still very happy with my decision. I have nothing at all against the Subie, or this forum for that matter. This forum has helped me out a lot actually.
smoss Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 maybe the G you drove and the 3-4 Gs I've driven are made by different plants.. cos the ones I drove handled like a feather pillow. to be fair however, the ones I test drove had the rubber band CVT transmission. you know the whole "keep it forever BELOW the power range" transmission. Not sure what year you drove. My doesn't have the CVT. Its surely different getting used an auto again. The tiptronic is kinda nice but far from a manual. I actually don't miss the touchy clutch and all the work you have to do to drive the GT smooth. So its a tradeoff. As far as suspension, this car does handle well, but not as "edge of your seat" kinda thing like the GT. Samething for the power delivery. Doesn't push you back in the seat, but it has linear smooth power when you need it. The ride is amazingly tight and collected unlike the GT. The GT is good for what it is. It's all a matter of taste. I actually believe you get to use the smooth quiet ride more than the handling capabilities of a car. We do have speed limits and plenty of cops waiting to pull you over. I do drive more slowly in this car and I am glad for that actually. In the GT it was way too easy to drive very very fast... I am actually glad to give that up. I know weird, but its true... Who knows maybe when this lease is up (3 years) I'll want to go back to a Subie...
nm Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 maybe the G you drove and the 3-4 Gs I've driven are made by different plants.. cos the ones I drove handled like a feather pillow. to be fair however, the ones I test drove had the rubber band CVT transmission. you know the whole "keep it forever BELOW the power range" transmission. Uhm, I don't believe the G ever got a CVT, at least in the states.
Jerboa113 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 oh. well then whatever trans it has rigfht now needs to be REALLY REALLY re-tuned cos it flat out fails. Its not aggressive and actually PREVENTS you from doing any aggressive driving. The manu-matic mode was better but it wasn't as responsive as my 5EAT. I'm just biased. I've looked for nearly a year to find something "better" than the legacy and every time I run into the same thing. either its better and its $50k.. or its marginally improved with some features and lacking in others. The G was one that I looked at very closely because it best fit the price to performance ratio, but I drive like a bat out of hell and I simply cant give up the level of control and performance the LGT offers. f1 4400 posts?? jeez! I've been here for a long time, post too much and I dont even have 1000 yet. "The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men." - Plato
speeding_gaijin Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 bottom line: subies are not for depreciation. they are for driving. have fun. g35 is not a bad car though

RobE Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 and to the OP... Congrats on the new car, you made a great purchase....but good luck with that drive when you have to get warranty work. http://newenglandsubarus.com/
SteveFromMass Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 My best friend has a G and we've drive together in my LGT stage 2.5 and in his stock G, me behind him, him behind me at times. Stop light digs, highway roll-ons, etc. you name it, we’ve done every comparison of these cars over the 2 years we’ve had these cars. We both agree that the LGT is a rawer and much more powerful platform. It kind of kills him that i paid $25.7k for it new and added $3k in mods to get a sub 5 second car Steven
05GT Guru Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Your also comparing a modded car to a stock one, and yes almost any turbo platform will see more hp gains from bolt ons and tuning than a N/A car, unless of course the N/A car is a well built v8, such as ls1 or ls2 or srt-8 or soemthing liek that. The reason the legacy picks up soo much power from stock to stage 2 isnt the up pipe or down pipe, its the tune, turbo cars are SO restricted from factory. I admit stock the legacy still have a slight edge, but the 07s and up G35s with 300hp would probably take a stock LGT in a straight line.
k2flipside Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 enjoy it! You definately got a better looking car maybe the g looks better then the gt after it has been totaled:lol:
squishyface Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Smoss, how are you going to roll out your new G in Vermont snow? It does snow there....right? Have fun!!
Meltdown07 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 maybe the g looks better then the gt after it has been totaled:lol: I think the G-coupe is definitely a better looking car than the LGT, but the G-sedan, not so much. Your mileage may vary. Go Cardinals!
05GT Guru Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I like the LGT alot more, if i wanted a G i would have gotten one.
k2flipside Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I think the G-coupe is definitely a better looking car than the LGT, but the G-sedan, not so much. Your mileage may vary. maybe the coupe is a lil better lookin on the outside, but the LGT is really nicely layed out on the inside, g coupe doesnt compare, LTG is proper on the inside, g's suspension is too hard as it of course should be, but still
legacy_y_tu Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Smoss, how are you going to roll out your new G in Vermont snow? It does snow there....right? Have fun!! uummmmmm..... I take it you missed the part where he bought the awd version.
