Calling all dealers (K.O.P?)- buying JDM parts via SOA?

So there is a post at nasioc about ordering JDM parts via SOA:

Anyway, There is a way to order JDM parts through SOA, but SOA makes it exceedingly difficult to do so. If SOA Blog does not mind I will pm them my suggestions on how to make a simple improvement to the system and potentially make some nice $$$$

Is anyone here at a Subaru dealer aware how to do this? Is it really possible?

This is sort of true.

The SOA parts warehouses also stock parts for the cars shipped to S. America, the Carribbean, etc. Many of these are the JDM versions.

Unfortuneatly these P/N's are not listed in the U.S. lookup/part database. To order them you need to know the exact part number and have a dealer who knows how to call in and order the parts as they cannot be ordered using the regular parts ordering system.

Not every JDM part is available through the U.S. warehouses.

^ And the other thing...at what price...

I figure that a lot of the pricing when we get parts from Japan has to do with the shipping costs...however, if the parts are already in the warehouses that SOA uses, then will they be cheaper?

I think the only part I would be interested in is JDM tails.

The last time I checked, the JDM tails were not available, but if you have the part numbers I can have my parts dept check again.

Here is what I heard from the guy who originally mentioned it:

Any dealer can order non-US parts through the Atlanta warehouse, however you need a JDM VIN (rarely a problem) and the part # (usually not a problem) however, you have to agree to purchase the part without knowing the final price.......... If they would make it so you can get a quote then decide to order it they could make some $$$$

I have access to JDM parts database... do you think you could give a try to some part #s? I higly doubt JDM bumpers could be ordered, but if they could... mmmm.

Yeah, that would have been nice. I just got the JDM spec B bumper + grill that I ordered from japanparts, after all said and done it was about ~$2050 shipped by sea. BTW, I want to give japanparts props for great customer services.

This is a great idea. I still don't understand why Subaru doesn't make parts available to all countries. 4 years ago I had to order from Japan body colored splash guards. $274 for 4 pieces of plastic that they have here but only in black. Stuff like grills and springs and splash guards and interior dressup. I know that certain other things aren't as easy due to emissions or safety differences between countries. I mean is there a real reason that only Japan gets the rear plastic trunk liner for the sedan but not the US?

I got my JDM V7's from a dealer parts guy that got them officially.

Also, rumor has it that STi is being shown that the Subaru tuner market over here is ripe for profit. Read into that what you will.

There was a thread about the plastic trunk liner. Apparently the one for Forester fits just about perfectly.

I have the JDM Legacy sedan trunk liner. Bought it used from unorthodox. My point is why don't they make this little things available here? Splash guards, liners, shift knobs, brake handles, etc. Go through japanparts.com and look at all the stuff available that people want. Like the auto aluminum brake and gas pedals or the armrest extension that has the extra storage.

We asked this question to SOA Blog on nasioc... answer is lame... "too expensive, not best for the market, blah blah". Lazy stupid corporate asses that's all.

ask anyone who's had the USDM or JDM armrest extension which was better. There was ZERO reason to make the USDM one. So R&D money as well as fabrication money was wasted by Subaru. BTW, I sold my USDM armrest extension and bought the JDM one.

Can you give me the part number for the 2005 JDM Legacy GT uppipe gaskets (both ends) and the turbo to downpipe gasket?

How about the gaskets for the same parts for the GDB Spec C (VF37)?

Is the part number for the JDM LGT TMIC bracket and bolt 21885AA320 and 21885?

Thanks.
