DougD Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I have just purchased a demo 2007 Legacy 2.5i wagon with the touring package and 18,000 km. I have not been able to find out much about the long term reliability of Subarus. Given the kms I would put on the car, the best option for me would be a 6 year, 140,000 Km warranty for about $1,600 with a $100 deductable. Roughly speaking, that is paying about $550 for each of the three years the extended warranty would be in place. In reviewing the maintenance records of previous cars (two camry wagons and a Mecury Villager, all of which had more than 10 years of service) I can only find two items that would have qualified as a warranty repair under an extended warranty, so from that experience, the extended warranty would not be worth it. The only fly in the ointment is the expected reliability of Subarus. I would expect to keep the car 8-10 years, accumulating 25,000 km annually. I live in Eastern Ontario and am therefore exposed to winter driving and salt ladened roads. How can I expect my Subaru to stand up and what has been the membership experience with long term reliability? Thanks Doug
dabbdc Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Doug, it is hard to get accurate info on Subaru Warranty pricing - in the US the Certification warranty extends coverage for 6 years and 100k miles from in service date, for you that would be from 2006, that gets you to 2012. We are offered 0,$50 and $100 deductibles for two versions, Classic and Gold. In Classic - Murphy's Law, it won't be covered if it happens to you so get the Gold. If you are keeping the car that long, change the trans and rear dif fluid at 10k-15k (miles) intervals. Change ALL fluids annually. Change oil at 3000 instead of 3750k miles, use synthetic. Consider the service plan that covers oil changes since typical oil change places don't use the Subaru filter and crush washer. Good luck!
GTTuner Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Call Subaru directly, sometimes you can snag a better deal right thru them. Google Subaru warranties, some dealers sell online for a hundred bucks over cost.

dabbdc Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 There are a few dealers advertising discounted prices who disclose the retail price - deal with them
ghdtpdna Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 so does this mean you can get extended one on a car that does not have a warranty right now? For ex, If I buy a 2005 LGT with 60k mile, can I add the ext warranty?
Leonardo Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Mine is in for service for engine related and the thing they do is not cover the teardown to find the pint of failure which I have to authorize. Don't have to pay it if the part is covered (which I think is a piston skirt due to them leaving the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose off.)
