subysteve Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Im having trouble trying to undo the bolts for the rear suspension tower on a 98 gtb lagacy wagon. I have tried eveything up to an inch drive rattle gun. Has anyone else had this problem and do you have any suggestions on how to get them undone? I have tried a breaker bar but cant get enough leverage.
RaGe Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 what are you doing? you putting something on? OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about .
subysteve Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 I am changing the rear springs, its the bolt from the shock absorber to the swingarm
RaGe Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 just use the floor jack. Place the floor jack under it and start lifting it up. it will budge them loose. OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about .
RaGe Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 your going to need a breaker bar though. But put the socket and breaker bar on the bolt and just use the floor jack. OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about .

RaGe Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l263/smccorry/H-tech%20spring%20install/Lowershockmountbolt.jpg Just as a reference. This is the bolt in question. I wish everyone who swaps springs on the ground with jacks/jackstands would read this post to save hours of frustration. Spray some PB Blaster on the bolts and let them sit for a few minutes. Slap a wrench on the bolts and then put a floor/bottle jack under the wrench. Jack up the wrench, VIOLA! Bolts are loose. OTM. Guest Gitster Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Same on a '98 RaGe? Probably similar. I found that once you get the nuts off, and if you are having trouble punching the bolts out with a hammer, then put a ratchet on them and just keep turning them until the threads make their way. The will eventually loosen and work themselves and you can punch/pop em right out.
RaGe Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 i would say so. same principal. OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about .
RaGe Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 it only makes sense to use the floor jack. makes it 10X more easy. Just sray some PB or WD-40 on it, let it sit for a few and use the up/down motion. OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about .
soyboy004 Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 use some PB blaster as well. i just did my suspension swap and had issues with this. I anticipated this after reading other threads so i PB blasted it and let it soak a few minutes. I then used the jack method to loosen it up. It takes a few rounds, but it works eventually.
RaGe Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 do you love TuRtLeS? OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about .
