So i have a chance to buy a black 5mt non SH Prelude.Asking price is $5000

this would be my daily driver and the Legacy with the heart of a Sti would go to my lady.

Any thoughts about that year prelude..Vtec baby!

I have a fourth gen Prelude, the fith gen's are pretty decent (although not as fast as the fourth). It depends on what you're looking for in a car to make any decent determination on whether or not it's good for you.

IMO it's a good daily driver as long as it's stock... and don't forget the timing belt at 90K...oh, and it will eat oil, there is no doubt in my mind about that...

Hey, who's in charge over there

+1

Um, does the lady need an STi / Legacy hybrid while you get the beater?;)

As for the 97 'Lude, it's a great car. Lots of creature features that will keep you happy and a really nice rev-happy VTEC 2.2 that is (was?) no slouch.

I'd consider a daily driver / beater to be an 89 Civic... so your 97 'top shelf Honda offering' is a pretty nice choice.

$5K? Damn... used car prices are cheap in teh USA.

Thats the first year of the 5th Gen Lude, I had a 2001. Overall this model has been very reliable. The only major concerns would be oil consumption, esp. if you VTEC alot, so chk oil levels regularly. You also want to give it a good look-over to see what parts/wear items need replacement, since its more than 10 yrs old. The price is avg. assuming mileage is ~100-120K.

a very good source for info is http://www.preludeonline.com Its a pay site but has alot of good info as well as good people on there. There's also a local club called Chicagoland Prelude Club that has a bunch of good folks too.
