HairySheep Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 This is for all of you who have to (or want to) drive around in slush and snow, and ALWAYS get that massive build up of snow in your wheel wells that is a pain in the ass to clean out. The solution i found that works for me is to spray PB Blaster in my wheel wells. I think its the oil in it or something that keeps the snow from sticking. Im sure WD-40 and other similar sprays would work the same. Here is a pic after almost an hour of driving in slush and snow and playing in parking lots. Last night (with out PB) my wheel well was completely packed solid and was rubbing the tires. I have heard this works for wheels too, but my wheels dont really build up snow to begin with. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa295/HairySheep/subaru046.jpg http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa295/HairySheep/subaru047.jpg Disclaimer: The snow was more wet this morning than it was last night, so that might have affected my results some, i dont know.
psucaptainkickass Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 ^ Great idea! I don't know if there is any scientific basis for it, but whatever works! I personally like my method better. Snowing outside = me inside!
spongemonster Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 I'd be careful of spraying it on wheels. I have a hunch that it might be bad to get lube on your brakes.....
bsdzine Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 ^^ that or completely kill all grip on the tires... be careful! the wheel well is a good idea tho! brian
Skater Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 I've been using Stoner's "More Shine" on the inside of my wheel wells for over five years with great success. Nothing sticks. They also make "Invisible Glass" which is also great.
Shooter_Jay Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 that pb is pretty harsh stuff, I wouldn't spray it anywhere I don't need it. It's chemically designed to eat through stuff, and works well. The pam I like the idea of alot. Or silicone spray lube. Or even wd40 which IS NOT a penetrating oil. Read the can if you don't believe me, it never mentions penetrating, but pb does. Usually if I have to use pb, I like to rinse it away after with wd40, because if I don't, the dissolved rust seems to crud back up when the pb evaporates.
mbshop Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 although wd 40 is not a penetrant it will loosen things up. might not be good for the plastic either. i like the silicone treatment best although i don't need stuff like that here in ca. george
HairySheep Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 theres not really anything plastic, i dont know about the newer ones, but the old 90-94s anyway dont have fender liners in the rear i suppose i could see it possibly doing damage to the paint though, i will have to remember the PAM, but thats for next year, snow is over now so cant really test anything unless i test with mud
