coolbluelb Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Just found out today that I will be moving with work from sunny Florida to Virginia Beach, VA. While I am excited, I have so many questions about where to live, what are good school zones, etc.. I also understand there is yearly vehicle testing required. Can anyone shed some light on how well a catted stage II Legacy would fare under these conditions?
Mitch Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Welcome to VA. I can't help you with schools and such. There is a yearly safety inspection But in this part of VA there isn't emissions testing. I don't see why you'd have any trouble. We have a really good dealer who puts on a Subie Gathering once a year. Perry Subaru in Norfolk. Look for any threads with HR in the title. That's Hampton Roads, the name for the entire region. 7 Cities also sometimes called Tidewater area. Large contingent of Subaru fans on www.NASIOC.com Just look in the Mid-Atlantic forums MAIC. Feel free to ask any questions. I'll always see if I can get you an answer. If I'm going faster than you, Move Right.
scooby600 Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I used to live there back in the day. I went to Tallwood elementary school and Brandon middle school. They are pretty legit as far as education. As far as I remember there are other schools with more money though (newer stuff). Princess Anne high school, Larkspur, and a few others have more money as far as I remember, so their stuff might be a little nicer. Theres a lot of museums and stuff close by too. Bus rides are not very far and sales tax was only 4.5% when I was there so that was nice. There are a lot of modified cars in comparison to NC but I'm not sure about FL. Since there are a lot, I don't see it becoming a problem for you to find a place to pass your inspection. Definitely shop around to find places to live and just find somewhere nice that you can afford. Last time I checked, housing didn't cost as much as houses here in Chapel Hill, NC but again, I'm not sure about FL. There is a good amount of military people there too because of the navy base in Norfolk and stuff like that
highlander Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Inspection focuses on safety issues (tires, belts, brakes, lights, glass, horn, seat belts). Emissions is regional. Most only worry about OBDII. If the car throws a CEL, then they look deeper. If no CEL, no further diagnosis. Some areas in NoVa will do sniff tests. Welcome.
