mustang killer Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 ok all i have is turboback exhaust and a catless uppipe on my 06 legacy gt. i am running the cobb stage 2 93 map (set at 16.5 psi) and i have all the following problems: -when im supposed to be hitting peak boost (around 3k rpm), i only get about 11 or 12 psi -then boost slowly goes up to about 14 psi at 5k rpm and tapers to about 12 psi at redline -i hear a high pitch sound coming from the front of the car under full boost -i tried flashing the stock map to see what happens, and i still hear the high pitch noise, and boost is at 11 psi at 3k rpm and slowly goes up to 12.5 psi at around 5k rpm-redline what can it be? your help is greatly appreciated

mustang killer Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 You have an uppipe leak. man, how ironic. i replaced my solid uppipe for a flex and oem gaskets to avoid this exact problem lol i am having the subaru dealer pull it out tommorrow and re-install it. i hope it fixes the problem
20lgt06 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 +1 uppipe , had that happen on my old rex --
mustang killer Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 well im glad you guys think it is an uppipe leak because that was my next step. the uppipe is going to be taken off 2moro and re-installed with a new gasket so i hope that does the trick

Darkness of Death Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 hi guys. unfortunately i'm having a boost issue as well.. i'm running stage 2 and boost gauge has shown that the car has peaked before at 1.20 hakpa (17.4 psi). i have the peak warning set at 1.10 hakpa just to have something to let me know when i hit that amount of boost - not for warning purposes. i had no problems driving the car on saturday...occassionally hitting over the 1.10 hakpa with all the beeping going on from the peak warning but since yesterday -sunday - i can't even hit 1.10 hakpa... i think the highest i have seen it go up to is 1.04 hakpa. i'm not hearing a high pitched noise like mustang killer is ~ at least i really dont think so car is running following performance mods - catted turboback, stock uppipe (07), perrin tmic any info is appreciated ~ thanks ~
Darkness of Death Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 forgot to add that the weather is much colder sunday than saturday and i just read that colder weather would drop your boost level = somebody correct if it's wrong
Legacy05 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Hey, is your up-pipe flex or solid ... flex FTW!
ddavis Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 ^^ I used to think this, but not sure if i completely believe this now. Me and another member on here both have had weird VW whistling noises coming from air getting through the flex part of our upipes. Not sure if this happens alot with flex upipes since I dont hear many other people mentioning this, but it was the case with his and seems to be the same prob with mine at the moment.

The real problem is the 2-bolt flange connection between the UP and headders. It should have been a 3-bolt setup from the factory. Ive seens pleanty instances where that connection leaked or blew out, both with flex and non flex UP. Proper installation and tightening is the key to reliabily with UPs. Or just get a headder set with a 3-bolt flage UP connection.
jim1969 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 ^or the new WBR header with a 4 bolt up-pipe connection. I went to a header with 3 bolts because I kept getting a leak with my old Crucial racing one. Still have the thing in the garage come to think of it.
whitetiger Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Yep, anything is better than that crap 2-bolt connection.

ddavis Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I was talking about leaking through the actually braided flex area. My gaskets showed the rings on where they sealed fine. And when I check them also theres no air traveling out on the ends. My prob was with air slipping through the flex area causing one of the most oddest sounds you will ever come across. But yeh 2 bolts isnt to smart of a move either.
mustang killer Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 well i just got my car back and after taking out the uppipe and re-installing it with 2 new gaskets, the problem is still there. nothing has changed since before i had them check all the hoses as well, so what can it be?
PGT Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 maybe you take care of your outstanding debts with members and we'll help. just a thought. you have a lot of nerve asking for assistance after the way you handled your recent transactions

You need to stop modding your car now. everything you touch seems to turn to $hit.
