It is just a standard Cubbypod 2 but I like it and so does everyone who has seen it before. I love the fact that it can be stealth, my dealership had the car for 6 days and didnt even know they were there lol.

Did you do the install? What did you make the mounts out of??

Posted
the cubbypod 2 is a prefabbed ABS kit that you install to install gauges in the cubby.

I'm still using the original cubby, but with a custom made mount for my gauge.

Too bad for you you've got the navi in the cubby area.

^ Is there selectable back lighting for those gauges?

Yes, depending on how its wired up, you can choose between white and amber (or if you get a different model gauge, I believe the other two choices are white/green and white/blue).

I've got mine wired up to switch between white when the car is on, and amber which is selected when I turn on my parking lights.

For it to truly match the interior of the LGT, it'd be red rather than amber. Amber is a little too yellow for my tastes, but whatever, it still looks good and works well for me.

I have a 52mm Prosport electric boost gauge in my cubby.

The other guys must have theirs simply hooked up as white all the time, rather than switch between white and amber.

AutoMeter NEXUS gauges on the dash.

As you can see in this pic, if the "binning" of AutoMeter's LEDs is far from perfect. I purchased my boost gauge (center of the three) relatively early, and as you can see, it's a "warmer" bin than the oil-pressure and EGT gauges. When dimmed appropriately, the AutoMeter NEXUS gauges actually match the factory '05's instrumentation scheme pretty closely.

The only real problem I have is reflections in the windshield at night (not too distracting, since they're so low-down), and also bright-sunlight visibility (which is common to just about all "smoked" gauges). I'm awaiting CaS to put out his line of gauge cups/visors. :)

I've posted about the NEXUS before - if you're interested in them, go ahead and search for "NEXUS" here, and you'll find what I've written in the past. My opinion still holds.

Nothing fancy for the mounting solution, just their carbon-fiber cups and standard mounts. The only thing I did to "clean up" was to use some split-loom conduit on the wires coming out.

BTW: that's the GReddy Informeter directly "underneath." On my steering column is the TurboXS Knock/Shift-light.

Cubbypod CP1-025210, housing AEM UEGO wideband O2 and AutoMeter SportComp II voltmeter. This was CaS's original design, so I had to cut the bezel on the UEGO to allow the cubby door to close.

The SportComp II actually also very closely matches our gauge illumination scheme.

I also drilled two holes off to the left corner to house the indicators from my LPPs (the bi-phase LEDs, of which the bottom is lit in this pic, is highlighted in the vertical yellow oval).

This picture is from one of my discussions on a speed-detection countermeasures Forum, so it also highlights my various radar-detector/laser-jammer controls. Yes, the ashtray door also closes to fully conceal that bank of controls, and no, that LED "pilot light" strip isn't nearly as bright as this picture makes it out to be. I apologize, but as I've confessed many times over, I have absolutely -NO- photographic skills.

I've also disabled the factory lighting elements in both the cubby as well as the ashtray areas.

What about us with nav :( pilliar wont work with the airbags either.

Ditto that. Nav & air bags in pillar kinda leave no aesthetically pleasing options for gauges.

Posted

Low enough on the pillar (yes, the actual pillar itself) should be OK.

Search around a bit, and you should find some pictures of deployed side-curtains, where our fellow members explicitly pointed out that their pillar gauge installs (either without the use of an aftermarket pod, or with a home-made/altered one) did not run afoul of deployment.

With the nav screen in the cubby, this makes things really hard....

In the DSM community, there've been many who've sacrificed ventilation for gauge mounting, and this remains a possibility with us, too.

Here on .com, there've been more than a few past posts where members have put their gauges down in the ashtray cubby. This would make it hard to read those gauges, but I would imagine that as long as they offered some kind of clearly-visible (by peripheral vision) warning cue, it'll be OK.

There's also the Perrin "Mickey Mouse Ears" - and various members have also otherwise mounted their gauges directly to the "corners" of the steering column cover.

Aside from this, it's more or less gonna have to be dash-surface mounted.

A final alternative would be to fab-up some "headliner mounts." At one point, I had my Informeter mounted in this fashion, but with my frequent use of the moonroof, daytime glare/visibility became a concern. I would imagine that any gauge mounted in such a manner would share the same.

www.cubbypod.com

where else !!! ;)

05gtlimited300 has CP1-025210 (as do most, it is the most popular model).

They just snap right in and are completely reversible back to stock. You just have to take the console out, which is not bad at all.

Great pics of the installs guys. As usual, pictures can also be seen on my website.. just click on "Installed Pictures" on the product page.

I got the idea for this setup from CreoSTI's Spec B, I think it looks good, its similar to the WRX and STI OEM boost gauge location...
