SubeCraz05 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I have a an LGT A/T and need some advice.... What is a good downpipe to go along with a borla catback exhaust and is the Ecelctronic Exhaust Cutout worth it, if so what company DHM Performance or Badlanz???? Any and all help is appreciated!!
BoxerGT2.5 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Cobb What's your reasoning for the cut out? Performance, to be cool, because RCola said to do it? OBAMA......One Big Ass Mistake America!
FocuS Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 All I've heard about the E-couts is that they tend to bind up VERY quickly and are really more trouble then they are worth. If you still want the option, I recommend a manual cut-out for track days...just jack up the car and spin the butterfly nuts off...
SubeCraz05 Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 A guy at a suby meet I went to had put one on his 06 STI and it sounds sick. Plus AMR Automasters claims it gives an extra 20-35 HP when opened. I was just wondering if anyone had done that mod and if the claims were true
Pinky Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 A guy I know had an 05 WRX wagon that was pretty well modded(STI manifold, VF-34, STI TMIC, TBE, blah, blah, blah...) and he had a electric cutout in his downpipe. When he opened it up it got loud and mean, but only worth 10whp. Dyno proven btw.
Speedracerx Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 If you do get one, go with the DMH. Really well built and they stand behind their product. I had it on my WRX and I moved it to my LGT...used over 4 years total so far, but mine is mounted further back in the exhaust path so the heat factor is not as great.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 Nice! thanks guys! Definitely very helpful to know. Does it put extra wear on the turbo life or will it actually help it out?
Long Island Legacy Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 My friend has one right after the DP on his sti. Is so loud and is only usefull at wot. If he has it open full before his turbo spools it actually makes the car slower cause it takes longer to build boost.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Thats definitely a plus to know, thanks Long Island!
j255c Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 why would it slow the spool, i always thought less restriction on a turbo car for exhaust the better post turbo. 06 TB EVO IX SE stock turbo monster subaru hater
whitetiger Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 +1. less restriction after the turbo will only increase spool and top end.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 So it is actually good for the turbo and wont put too much strain on it ?
whitetiger Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 how is a free flowing exhaust gonna put strain on the turbo?
SubeCraz05 Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Thats what I figured but by one sayinf it will take longer to spool, and another saying it will get faster spool, putting me in a tailspin here. Just want to know if it will hut the car or gain better performance by adding the D/P with the EEC attached or if I should just do a cattless d/p.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Is anyone going to the big Subaru meet / Tour Drive in Long Island New York on April 27th?
bama16 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 the faster you get the exhaust out the faster the turbo spools.
j255c Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 come to think of it, my buddy had a cut out on his wrx w/ vf22. He used to open it up and spool was hurt, once closed the backpressure helped give it way more grunt down low, why does this happen. 06 TB EVO IX SE stock turbo monster subaru hater
whitetiger Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 ^ it shouldnt. the turbo itself is much more of a restriciton in the exhaust than anything else.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Am I correct in the assumption that as long as it gets properly tuned, the motor won't risk getting over torqued when the valve is opened?
whitetiger Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Over torqued? I think you have some missconceptions about how an engine works. A free flowing exhaust after the turbo is always a good thing in terms of performance. And a tune will make sure the engine runs its best. you cant harm the engine by having an open exhaust after the turbo. period.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Thats what I thought, but I have been reading some spirts from other members saying it will take longer to spool or build back pressure, or hurt the turbo spool, so I just wanted to clarify the crap up lol. Thanks white tiger. Any other mod you recommend when getting this done? I have an SPT cold air intake, Invidia cattless up-pipe, Perrin Light weight crank pulley, Borla Catback Dual Exhaust, and am planing on getting the AMR custom 3" Down Pipe w/ exhaust cutout and tune.
whitetiger Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 As long as you get a proper tne for the mods you want. it doesnt matter what you put on your car. Though i hear the spt intake is a very hard intake to tune for.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Gotcha, I was just jerked around by this shop Automasters AMR in Mamaroneck, NY. You know any good tune shops possiblly in Southern Jersey or central Jersey that are great to work with and decently priced? I live in Orange County, NY.
SubeCraz05 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Need a downpipe (recomendations welcome), with Electronic Exhaust Cutout put on and a tune
