Pijanica84 Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 After i purchased my car i noticed that there seems to be some spots where road tar stuck from the street. Im wondering if there is something that will work well on removing it doing as little/no damage to the paint as possible. Any suggestions?
Danase Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Oil Flo, Stoner's Tarminator, Four star Citrus Power Punch are all great for dissolving road tar.

iNVAR Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 i don't want to dole out bad advice, so someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but i have always used a bit of Goo Gone on soft toilet paper to remove the tar, then i rinse the area clean with water. i've been told that this is safe.
Danase Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Well, I wouldn't use toilet paper or any paper products on the finish. They can and will scratch the paint. Maybe not a lot but they will. Also, I always advise against Goo Gone and Goof Off because I have personally seen them stain paint right before my eyes.

welby Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I've had luck with Mean Green cleaner, it seems to really loosen bugs and tar up. I buy it a Dollar General. http://media.mydoitbest.com/imagerequest.aspx?sku=646334&size=2&warehouse=C&newsize=200 I've also used Kerosene in the past with no ill effects, but some here will probably have a raving fit about the mere mention of it, lol.
Danase Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Stoners and clay bar. Just not together because the cleaners in Stoners will deteriorate the clay.

Yeah, it's not something that will always happen. I used to use it and it stained one urethane bumper and that was it for me.
