PPI Audi R8 Razor

What would you say to owning an Audi R8 with better performance and improved aerodynamics? Probably, "Yes, please." Well, German tuning outfit PPI Automotive Design has accomplished just that.

Meet the PPI R8 and the PPI R8 Razor. They were originally shown to the world at the Essen Motor Show last year. Power numbers are upped from 420 horsepower to 460 hp, with torque boosted from 317 ft-lb to 343. Used with the optimised engine management and the sport air filter unit, the car reaches a top speed of 192 mph. 0-60 mph is improved by six-tenths to an impressive 4.0 seconds. With a ground effects kit built entirely of carbon fibre, and super-lightweight 19" black, magnesium wheels, the two cars have a look that separates them from the stock R8, but without egregiously straying away like many other tuners.

Full specs on the car follow the press release below.

PPI also offers their carbonfibre aerodynamics with glossy and matte finishes, so the buyer has at least some opportunity to customize the final look. Included in this package are a front lip spoiler, which lets the front brakes breathe while reducing lift. Front bumper air intakes fit into the original body and improve front radiator and brake cooling. A new adjustable wing rear spoiler is also included. Side sills, side blades, diffuser, rear grill round out the exterior mods.

Inside, PPI has tricked out the handbrake, door entry plates, and the instrument panel in carbonfibre. They've added a new, ergonomic steering wheel - with carbonfibre - which also gives the driver more control over the driving dynamical program.

The exact price is not known to us, but if you have to ask, you probably can't afford the car. PPI will likely announce the price on the PPI R8 and the PPI R8 Razor very soon.

I finally saw a stock one driving around in a parking lot last week.

WOW. I'd take it over a Porsche Turbo just because it truly looks like a supercar.

This tuner R8 above is truly bad-ass.

Give me a healthy V8 engine in the Audi V12 TDI's body, and that is about heaven.

This PPI car is a bit over the top, but still pretty hot.

Likes:

front air dam

CF interior trim

wheel design

rear outlets

Dislikes:

*chunk of a shift knob.

*flat black blade, should be CF, but I get why it is black, like the rest

*front intakes under the headlights. Better if it had the horizontal slats, or even just one, like the rear.

*double-deck spoiler. Pick one. flap spoiler, or wing spoiler, but not both. make the movement change the angle of the wing spoiler, but having it on top of the flap spoiler is just not quite right.

*wheel color. Again, I get the black, but I don't like it.

*blackout between the tail lights. I would black out the license plate pocket instead, and leave the panel between the tail lights in body color.

I love most things about this one: This is the V12 TDI concept.

I'd put these wheels on it, though...

except the draconian regulations that Nissan is putting on the GTR, and the fact that it looks like a rock.

GPS involved speed limiting capabilities, diagnostics that trip for everything under the sun, including aftermarket wheels. Thanks, but no thanks.

R8 has a V8 amidships, still all-wheel-drive.

Has very carefully designed suspension that is reported to be sublime.

likewise carefully designed aero package with an absolute minimum of aerodynamic lift, which means STABLE.

has a very inviting interior.

looks like a jet fighter, instead of a rock.

The R8 is faster than I am, so does it really matter if it is faster than the GT-R or not? I'm just sayin'...

And if you can afford either one, you can afford the price difference without breaking the bank. And the R8 is probably so nice to drive, and with AWD traction, and a set of winter tires, one wouldn't need a Spec B as a daily driver.

Looks are subjective, don't try to use that as an argument

Draconian regulations ?

The interior of the GTR is light years ahead of the Audi, so is the technology, and the AWD of the Nissan is every bit as good as the Audi too, so where does that leave the R8 ? Just more expensive

Looks are subjective, but they aren't irrelevant. And I would venture a guess that most people prefer things that look good, than don't, and most people would probably agree that the R8 is a better looking car. That is worth more money to some.

The interior of the GTR is NOT lightyears ahead of audi. The GT-R's interior is stark and uninviting. Gadgets do not a nice interior make. Again, subjective, but I would guess that surveys would turn out the same way, in Audi's favor.

I didn't say that GT-R was inferior. I just said that I preferred the R8, and it is more than just being "more expensive". Audi's chassis development for street and prototype racing, as well as Lamborghini, is not really all that trivial.

And Nissan IS being draconian with the GTR. Moreso in Japan, but I have a feeling the US car won't be free and clear, either.

Saw the GTR in person this weekend. Great looking car but not nearly as slick as the R8. The GTR is a dude magnet while the R8 is a chick magnet. The R8 sounds a lot better also.

well of course the audi is the chick magnet. they only see the audi rings, and know the person driving is rich.

they see a nissan emblem, and they think eh.

I just wonder where they got the power and torque from.. 110hp/liter from a NA motor?

lots of cars hit that mark, it's the tq that's the bogey
