Calling all 08s - dash "buzz"?

There was another thread started with this topic, but may get lost as the title relates it to more of a rear deck problem.

Anyways, I've seen that some 08 owners are picking up on a dash "buzz" from the left corner when traveling over uneven road surfaces. I guess I'm just looking for some of you other 08 owners to chime in and see if you've noticed it as well.

If there are enough of us, I'd be more than happy to take the lead on letting SOA know of a potential TSB needed.

My dealer said they will look at it but needs to be there all day for the tech to diagnose the problem.

Thoughts?

Moderator - please move if you feel this should be in warranty or general Legacy section. Thanks!

Edit: I understand that the 05s were plagued with a dash rattle. This is different. And from what I understand from my dealer, the dashes on the later models were re-engineered.

I noticed a weird noise, I wouldn't exactly call it a buzz, more of a strange short term hum. I figured it was the rear differential or something(I have no prior experience with 4wd), as mine only occurs when I get off the accelerator and I'm banking on something or turning.

I had shift knob buzz. Pretty much took care of that with a casopolis knob. Now I've got a buzz in the rear (possibly the cargo area cover). I'm not too concerned with any of it though. I'm just not used to hearing buzzes because my previous car was so loud you couldn't hear much at all.

I had dash "buzz", upper left corner of my 06 OB-XT Limited. Dealer advised a service bulletin that cited an "improper" plastic weld on one of the dash support brackets. They replaced the entire dash, which took two days. I was concerned that they would cause more problems removing / reinstalling the dash, but they advised they had done several successfully. The fix was complete about 18 months ago, and all is well. No more noises.

Every time I would start driving, after about 5 minutes I would start to hear this high-pitched whine coming from the passengers seat. After taking the car back to the dealership time and time again they said that the next time I start to hear the whinning sound to pull over to the side of the road and Kick my GF out.

worked :)

on a serious note. I havent heard any weird sounds coming from my SE. it does Tick like a mother when I turn it off.

Dear Sir, it is called DASH RATTLE and every Legacy since MY-2005 has had it. In the left hand corner by the windshield. It is a matter of when it develops, NOT IF !

I get a buzz when the auxiliary jack is in without my ipod, and when the headlights are turned on. But it goes away once i plug in my ipod or turn off the headlights.

Yeah - I'm still trying to watch for my "buzz" which comes from the left corner of the dash or door panel. Worse over uneven surfaces. And to the guy who said it's the same problem as the 05's - you're wrong. The dash was redesigned for the later models.

Update: Good news and bad news. The bad news is that I hit a huge pot hole today. The good news is, it seems to have "corrected" the buzzing problem. I'm in shock. I'll keep listening to see if it creeps up again or if that was the "fix".

:mad:The das rattle may be the end cap for the dash rattling it does not fir very well on my 08, at the moment I am fitting 3 different buzzes or rattles,

Left front dash, gauge cluster buzz and rear deck rattle, I think the latter is the seat belt tensioners so I plan to remove the rear shelf deck to take a look.

Basicaly the car is a rattle box and for the money this is disapointing

still no issues on my 08' lgt with 8k miles. 1 thing i do notice is passenger seatbelt buckle rattling on the pillar.

Update: the "buzz" is back, particularly over expansion joints, irregularities in the road, especially at freeway speeds. I've got an appointment to do a ride-along with the tech in the upcoming week.

Another update - the car is over at the dealership being inspected right now. I went on a test drive with their master tech and he did in fact hear the dash buzz. I'll keep you posted as to the resolution.

After taking a test drive with the dealership technician, he did in fact hear the buzz. I believe they said some wires were rerouted to make sure they weren't contacting something, and on my invoice it says an SOP Panel was ordered, which'll be installed once the part is received. Alright - just picked up the car. Didn't hear the buzz, but it isn't always as prevalent. Anyways, here's what it says from the work order:

Per previous diag trim piece needs replacement

During inspection found that left dash mount is making noise and needs to be replaced

Replaced mount cover

So, I'll drive it around and hopefully it's fixed. If not, on to round two.

I get this intermittent creaking sound on the left side of the dash, right where it meets the windshield. I can almost reproduce it by playing with the vent located on top of the dash, the one that points to the side window, and by pressing on the dash material close to the windshield.

that should be coming from the female plug on the frame. Read this:

I killed all the dash noise by removing the dash.
