buiboy88 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 so here's the story, i was putting on my seatbelt and putting some change in the ashtray and i accidentally dropped the change behind/under the ashtray because the ashtray didn't come down when i opened the thing. on the drive home i didn't hear and clinking or anything and i can see the change when i shine a flashlight down there. should i take my interior apart to get the change out or should i just leave it there and not worry about it? if i do have to take my interior apart should i do it asap, i have to drive home (3 hour drive) tomorrow and i don't know if i can do it before i leave. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj238/aqbui/IMGP0853a.jpg
Penphoe Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 It's easy to remove the shifter trim on a standard. First start by gripping the bottom of the shifter trim, using the shifter boot's flexibility to allow you to help get underneath the trim. Give it a gentle tug, and the bottom will pop right out. It's best to do this with a warm car as the plastic tabs will be pliable. Unplug the cigarette lighter/ash tray light harness and lift and twist the trim out of the way. If you really want to see what's down there, unscrew the shift knob and remove the entire trim out of the way. Good luck finding that change. LaterZ! Darren!!
planigan Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I don't think the loose change is really gonna hurt anything. Unless it starts clinking around and annoying you -- or just you really need the money, these car payments hurt sometimes -- don't worry about it.
spongemonster Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Well most change is magnetic (except for pennies), try that first as it's easy.

Plus you'll see how much space is really back there for other things...
