taskforcefreddy Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 OK. So I recently upgraded my suspension to the KW 2 Variants for my 05 LGT. Let me say that the ride, look, and feel is awesome and although they're pricey, they're everything I was looking for in an aftermarket suspension. What I wasn't looking for however was a rather noticeable clunking sound coming from the right front wheel assembly while driving over some of the more pock-marked roads in El Paso. It's pretty bad, especially when it's a little cooler out than normal. So what have I done about it??? I PM'd the individual I purchased the kit from and never got a reply. When that fell through I contacted KW of America. This was of course after I took the car back to the shop that installed it (they reinspected and found nothing loose or wrong with the install) and after I put the car up on the racks and checked it over myself. The reply from KW was "The best advice I can give is to go over the complete install, as I believe this is where you find the problem. Check your torque settings, sway bar links, etc etc." No problem. Went over it again and this time I took it to Crawford Subaru in El Paso and let me say that I was pleasantly suprised at their attitude as I've heard other horror stories about other Subaru Service Centers. Once again they found nothing wrong with the install and documented it saying that they are led to believe something is wrong with the coilover. My question is, what do you think? Also, this is my daily driver so any chance of me laying this car up to take the coilover off and send it in so they can "analyze" is a no-go. I mention that because this was the next possible COA given to me by KW. Thanks much for any and all constructive input.
Spray Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Check the pretension maybe? Sounds like a sway bar issue possibly.
BDII Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 does it happen when you turn or only straight? what sways and endlinks? Need forum help? Private Message legGTLT
taskforcefreddy Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Thanks for the advice. To answer your questions, it happens on both straight line driving and on turns. I've never messed with the sway bar. Exactly what am I checking? I'm still running stock. Sorry if this is a noob question.

If you did and tried to contact me via PM or email I never received any post sale questions from you. If you would like any help in getting your issue sorted out, please feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll do my best to help you out.

Sorry if this is a noob question. either on turns or going straight over uneven surfaces, worn swaybar endlinks or bushings will make noise. if you jack the car up, and shake the bar or endlinks you will be able to feel the play in the worn part.

Paul, I have to apologize and I want to do so on here so everyone can read it. Yes, I purchased the set fromyou and about a month ago, wrote a PM that was supposed to get to you. After re-checking my sent PM box, I see that it never got sent so, through no fault of yours, I falsely accused you of not replying and I'm sorry. I'm putting the car up this afternoon and will conduct the check as mentioned in the other post. Thanks much.
hammerhead Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 did you mess withe the pre-load? whem my coils arrived the rear driver pre-load was off. the bottom collar was loose out of the box
AKLGT Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I had an issue with this myself in my GP Moto's. I was told to do all the checking as you described and to take them apart, clean them out really good. I just slapped mine on dirty. I never got to doing this, so perhaps if the coils are dirty? I know mine would clunk on uneven surfaces when it was really dry outside. If i washed the car it wouldn't for awhile. when it got colder outside, it also wouldn't just when very dry or hot. Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!!
VTGT Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 other than this problem, how do you like your KW's? I have them along with some cobb sways in my shed. I am itching to get them on once it gets warmer
taskforcefreddy Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 OK, Checked all the sways again and nothing going. I've cleaned the car numerous times to include hosing off the coilovers and that didn't resolve the issue either. As far as the way they look and ride, they're awesome. I really like them and would recommend them to anyone wiling to shell out the money. I'm not gona let this bad situation dissolve my taste for the kit... I think they're great. Also, I got a message from KW of America and they're looking into it as they have an STI with the same problem. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks again.
