fweasel Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 haha only people on this forum think to take pictures immediately after opening... Yeah, no. That's pretty much most car forums. What spring rates did you go with? ignore him, he'll go away.
Drew888 Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Taking the middle road at 400/400. Until I give it a good flogging [URL="http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1586"VbGallery/URL]

Drew888 Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 I'll wait until Racecomp comes out with their plates. [URL="http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1586"VbGallery/URL]
Knight705 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 nice, maybe we'll finally get a review on the racecomp's.
Drew888 Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Only as compared to the oem bilsteins. Not much of a comparison. I do have some experience with Tarmacs on an STI though. I'm two weeks from install w/another for alighnment. [URL="http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1586"VbGallery/URL]

Drew888 Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Uh yup still another week as "I" am installing them by myself and have to make time. (yeah right...maybe I'll pay just to get it over with) [URL="http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1586"VbGallery/URL]
sirsimon Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Mine finally arrived yesterday! I bumped my install date up to tomorrow. I can't wait, I can't wait!!!!
edkwon Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Taking the middle road at 400/400. Until I give it a good flogging should the fronts be sprung a bit less than the rears? if you convert to Kg/mm units, most ppl i know run their coilovers about 8 kg/mm rears and 6 kg/mm fronts.
sirsimon Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Review (and non-cam phone pics coming soon). In a word, these COs are AMAZING! Great ride, and the car handles like a cat. http://secure-digital.net/images/co01.jpg
sickdrift Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Im interested in finding out the adjustability range of these in terms of height.
Drew888 Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Lol...since your here. SirSimon, just start answering questions as if you were me.... I'll eventualy get in here, only difference is my car is QSM. [URL="http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1586"VbGallery/URL]
sirsimon Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Out of the box, the front end was 1/4" lower than pictured, the rear about 1/2" higher. I'm not sure how much room there is left to play...we got it where I wanted on the first try. I would bet I could raise it by another 1/2" at a minimum.
r12rex Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 MONDAY MONDAY MONDAY! I'm still able if you are! We can do some preliminary measurements and see what kind of bump travel you have after setting your ride height. Just for those who might be curious. Do you have any ideal heights by chance? On the STi, I am running 14" front and 13.5" rear hub to fender. This was recommended per Myles from RCE for Optimal handling. I'll PM him and see what he says in regards to ride heights with the tarmac 1s on the leggy. Kind Regards, Ryan
Drew888 Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Monday it is! Thanks Ryan ---Next on the list is stg2 [URL="http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1586"VbGallery/URL]
Drew888 Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Coils are on! Pics / review coming tomorrow! [URL="http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=1586"VbGallery/URL]
r12rex Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Good! Enjoy them...here's my take on the drive post-install... The valving is set 6 clicks from full soft front, and 4 clicks full soft in the rear. Ride height is to settle to 25.5 Inches ground to fender. *Thanks Myles, we nailed it!* On with the drive... I didn't get too aggressive with the vehicle as I am unfamiliar with the reactions during specific inputs on the Legacy Platform. Some background on my car...2006 STi, RCE T2 coilovers 400/350 rates, RCE Camber plates front, RCE Pillowball Rears, Whiteline Sport ALK, Whiteline 27 F Sway/ 24 R Sway, Kartboy endlinks, TIC Fender cowls, STi Spec C Titanium Strut bar, Carlabs Rear x-brace, TIC Race diff bushings/Outrigger bushings/ Whiteline subframe locking bolts, stock RE070 tires, Pressures set to 41 F 37.5 R Car is corner balanced to 41%/59% F/R, 50/50 cross weights, Car weighs in at 3373 with my 160lbs included. Camber is -1.7 F -1.2 R 0 toe. RCE Valving is set to street settings per RCE. I believe the LGT Spec B has Cobb sways, kartboy endlinks, and RCE T1 Coilovers, Stock Spec B tops, Stock tires set to 50 PSI F, 47 PSI R *Correct me if I'm wrong Uncle Drew* Comfort LGT VS STi- LGT rides much better over bumps, the valving is absolutely perfect, very VERY comfortable...I feel the tires and the softer valve settings contribute to this feeling quite a bit...STi is a bit bumpier, not much...this is probably due to my more aggressive street valve settings on the T2s, RE070s, Plates, yada yada yada. Handling-throw it into a turn and the car reacts nicely, stays relatively flat and feels predictable...again I couldn't really push the car because of my lack of experience driving a legacy and no alignment done yet. I feel the coilovers could be a bit stiffer maybe a click or two...but again I am coming from driving my STi...which obviously is quite a bit more set-up compared to. Overall, I am absolutely in love with the suspension set-up on his vehicle. It is an awesome all around car...great for long trips, etc etc...and still can be very track worthy! Just yet another testament to RCEs great products! I may have to back off a couple of clicks on my T2 set-up to get them to ride as good as these T1s! I HIGHLY recommend the coilovers...for those with them waiting to be installed...get them in!!!! Can't wait for the Alignment/corner balance!! Have fun! Happy Motoring! Kind Regards, Ryan
Drew888 Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 Ok now a few days on them... To say there is a night and difference is a gross understatement! Immediately after install at 6 clicks front/4 rear I'm thinking wow, much stiffer. I wasn't prepared for the change from the soft as pillows ride of the stock spec-B to the uber stiff Tarmac 1's. Ok more driving, they are not as stiff as my first two minute impression, stiffer yes but different. Not easy to quantify, but if you have ever riden in mediocre coilovers then go to these you would throw the mediocre ones out ASAP! They are firm but not hard or jarring. There is no bounce...every movement felt from the chassis is the car following every nook & cranny in the road. There is such a strong connected feeling now as I can feel the road through the suspension/seat where I was completely isolated before. A wonderful new driving experience fron the Spec-B. It is also much more confidence inspiring. I was under the impression the suspension was the main factor holding the grip back...it was but to a point. After the coilover install it became painfully obvious that the lack of alignment and a soft sidewall is now the weak link. I was taking very familiar corners at decent speeds and I can feel the tire roll over and this is at 50psi! I had no idea how soft the sidewall of the 050's were until now. Next up are rims/tires, anyone want my stockers? So I remember someone posting if on full soft could he drive customers around in his car. Well at 6/4 clicks on the coils ...maybe, maybe not. It will probably be to stiff (think stock EVO - just a tiny bit stiffer). So before my long commute to work today I change it to 2 clicks front and full soft in the rear. HOLY CR^P!!! With this simple change it now rides like a 911 or M5. wonderfully comfortable yet with so much more grip. At this setting you can feel confident to give anyone a ride. ---These Tarmac 1 coilovers at this setting is the PERFECT street setup!! I thought the recommended settings were very good, certainly a good compromise between aggressive street/some track but now...Nirvana! I had a huge grin on my face even though I was stuck in traffic most of the way. I did not expect these coils to have that much adjustability. A HUGE thanks goes out to RCE for not only providing a great product but also for performing the R&D & requesting custom valving for the LGT! Many people were amazed at the ride/balance of my WRX wagon on Prodrive springs/Koni inserts, Whiteline sways...etc. but it wasn't perfect. This set up is soo much better it's as close to perfect as I can tell. Definately the best street / track coilover to be had. You do NOT have to make a compromise with these. Nice and comfortable at full soft, great handling, response, damping within a click or so of adjustment. I cannot wait for rims/tires !!!!
