Canon20D
Im @ 40K and im not all that sure that the previous owner did the 30K change before I bought it @ 36K. SO I want to change the fluid... I get some resistance sometimes getting into 3rd and 4th, like itll click in but as you let the clutch out you realize (to late) that its not Totally in gear and ends up grinding. IE: missing the gear Happens Much more with spirited shifting, when I'm shifting more on instinct, then on tactile input. Are there any fluids that might make the shifting feel smoother, or is that 90% bushings and STS? (im going to get those but not for a bit) Thanks for input
bluesuby
Redline NS is recommended for the gearbox. It's very hard to find in South Jersey. You can do better on the internet.
praedet
Go for the Subaru synthetic... Here's the thread
Canon20D
Ill see if Subaru of Cherry hill has it. If I can get quarts of it, and not buy a 20L barrel
BlackHole
I'm using Uncle Scotty's cocktail and it is working nicely (see Nasioc) since I couldn't justify picking up the 20L of Subaru Extra-S oil. Kyle "BlackHole"
chenc544
If you look at the maintenance schedule it actually doesn't require MT fluid change at 30k. It just says inspect... Either way, it sounds like you could use some sync to help with the shifting. Like praedet says get the Extra-S if you can get the quart size or see if anyone in the area wants to go in on the 20L. gianspi
Same grind happened to me. Two weeks later and my clutch was toast. enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.
mickeyd2005
I just picked up 5 quarts of Extra-S oil from a local nasioc member for $40. Haven't changed it yet, but the guy I bought it from says it's the best. He noticed a smoother shift in his 2004 STi.
RangerMan
I used Castrol Synthetic for my gearbox and rear diff. Seems to work great. I noticed some improvement in shifting but hard to quantify. Got the T-70 bit from O'Reilly Auto Parts for $7 (they had to order it though)
