Outside temp guage,not reading right??

It's worked fine fr the last two years,now its reading to cold.It's reading 18 when I know its 45 ouside.The rest of the computer ie mileage etc seems to be working fine.

BTW where is the outside temp probe on the car anyway.

update,,the damn thing is reading fine now,,didn't work fr 3 days:confused: go figure.

Too weird.

 

If you want to find/check the sensor, it's located on top of the lower "cross-bar" of your front bumper skin to the left (while facing the car) of the middle splitter below the license plate. Best I can illustrate would be where the "x" is below

mine's off too, but i could care less. the main culprit is the plastic sensor material, although a lot of oem's use it, it doesn't conduct heat/cold as well as metal, hence a close but no cigar reading....

 

an interestingly boring side, ford has stopped using that type of sensor material for their coolant temp sensors because the inaccuracy was wreaking havoc on the pcm.....

Mine consistently reads 2 degrees warmer than the actual outside temperature. I just have to do the math to get the correct temp.

 

Since it has been mentioned that it is the plastic material that causes this, is there some sort of modification someone can do in order to make it more accurate? I asked the stealership about a recalibration but they said it is not possible.
