07 or 08 spec B???

Buying a new Legacy within the next month. I've narrowed it down to a spec B model.

I'm looking for opinions about waiting for an 08 or buying a 07 and saving a couple grand. The 08's do have an undetermined launch date though(although eveyone says early summer) and I really need a new car within the next month. However I can get by without a car for next two months or so.

Here are the positives and negatives for the each car I can think of so far.

07

+

wheels

cheaper

no silly fog light surrounds

can negotiate a better deal

-

"older style"

blue inserts in the interior

possible pooer resale the 08?

08

+

restyle does make car look better(except for surronds on fog lights)

like grey/black interior more

A pillars are supposedly supposed to be stregthen for improved chassis rigidity(although info on this is sketchy)

potentially higher resale then 07

-

slighty more expensive the 07?

fog light surrounds

undetermined launch time

won't be able to negotiate as much with the price for unrealesed car

Thanks for the input.

Errr... 2008 spec B was at the Toronto Autoshow up here in Canuckistan. SCI reps confirmed Canda will be getting the car but they don't know when...

They mentioned they might be releasing the car later then normal(ie not early summer as with the rest of 08 Legacy's)

ummm.....

06 spec B

- vlsd diff

- 5 spd of regular GT

- Red brick leather interior

- same wheels and tires as 07

- limited production of 500

- Cobb accessport will work

- catted upipe

07 spec B

- modified version of STi 6spd without DCCD(stronger gear box as well)

- mechanical torsen LSD

- Alcantara blue inserts with black leather interior

- only colour is diamond graphite metallic

- no cat in upipe

- memory front drivers seats

- prewired for SAT radio

- AUX input for MP3/media players

- No Cobb accessports yet

- tire pressure monitor

- VDC and traction control

- SI Drive for different engine mapping(IE for fuel economy or making car throttle "feel" sportier)

- supposedly make more whp stock compared to turbo 06 & 07 Legacy's

- limited production to 3000

- prewired for remote start

- rear fold down seats

- heavier then 06

- slight worst fuel economy in city but a bit better then 05/06 on the highway by EPA standards

Posted

- 07 and 06 slightly more powerful than stock.

- 06 mp3 capable.

- 07 slower 0-60 (weight and extra shift penalty)

- more toys and gadgets should keep resale value of 07 higher.

Should have made this a poll.....

Gah...

Is it me or does it seem that interest has dropped for Legacy's made after 2006 on this site?

hmm, i dont know why.. again, im just a newbie to the legacy world but i would think if the 07 spec b has a tranny based off the sti then that would be the way to go.. i know the sti trannys are pretty much rock solid, i have an 04 sti.. i dont know a whole lot about the engine in the 07 spec b though.. im pretty sure its kinda based off of the sti also.. but i dont know the major diffirences.. if i got a spec b then there would be some modding involved.. first mild then i would plan on doing a turbo upgrade, maybe somthing like a gt30r rotated kit like perrin or ultimate racing..

^ The 5MT seems to be pretty robust though there have been a couple that were severly damaged during drag racing (blown shifts). The 6MT would give extra assurance for heavy power mods.

whitson, the question is how much power are you planning on making? If your reaching for the sky at 500whp, then the 6spd might be a better option.

If it was me? I'd get the 06 (will not live with vdc), add power, and won't dump the clutch. The 5MT will hold if your not an asshat.

enough zip ties and duct tape will fix anything.

Why do you think so? It seems like there are a lot of 07 LGT owners on this site, the car is basically the same as the 05 and 06 aside from extra gizmos like the SI drive and different instrument cluster, but maybe its just that the 05 and 06 owners are more vocal.

no more than 400whp.. if even that.. maybe more like 350whp.. but no more than 400whp.. what is vdc? i consider myself a conservative driver.. i know how try treat/drive my car.. in general i do favor a 6 speed plus i like the idea of it being based from the sti, which again is a pretty strong tranny..

I'm an 07 owner but don't have much to say yet, because power mods so far are limited by a lack of EM. Tires, brakes, suspension, etc. pretty much are the same as previous years. So not too many questions. I for one, am learning to just better drive my LGT. Currently, I'm working on my heel-toe downshifting in preparation for a driving school. Where are all the people in the motorsports forum??

Not as many 07 guys participating in threads. Especially considering the substantial upgrades that were done by Subaru to certain models of the Legacy.

Also, there isn't many "STFU newb" or "use the search function" comments from 07 guys:lol:

You accidentally put the 'blue inserts' under the negative column. Blue inserts are hotttttttttttttt.

VDC is electronic stability control that comes with the 07 models. #1 reason I will try to find a used 05 instead of new 07 if my car gets totaled.

if your only looking to get 350 whp then the '06 will be more than enough to satisfy your needs. now the only thing you have to consider is the styling differences. I have an '06 and i love it. At first i wanted the 6 spd but after thinking about it the only reason i wanted 6spd is for racing factors but in all honesty how often are you going to race. for daily driving the 5 spd is more comfortable. I think there is a thread about 5spd vs 6spd somewhere around here and there was not that big of a difference. Anyways im putting down 340 whp and so far no probs w/tranny *knock on wood*

I vote for the '07. If it came in automatic, I would probably would've strongly considered trading up to one. I really like the interior, and with the exception of the Tribeca, the '07 Spec B has the best interior Subaru has ever done.
