issues with high mileage LGTs?

As most of you have seen i'm looking at a used LGT. It turns out I can't spare the money I wanted to so i'm forced to get something else or a higher mileage LGT.

how are these cars past 80,000km (50,000miles) ??

reliability? rattles? etc etc

few of us have hit 60k miles. I'm having no issues with mine. few creaks and rattles, but I've had those for a while. only reason why you might have problems with a high mileage car is if it's been modded.

258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos

I'm at just over 40,000 miles on my LGT now (there actually should be a good number of members over 50 or 60,000 miles now) and have been at Stage 1 the majority of that (since 13,000 or so). The only thing I've noticed is a few rattles just like the ones I experienced in my 2-3 year old RS. The spring under the passenger seat rattles (I just isolated it this morning) which was an easy fix on the RS a few years back, the door panels rattle a little with music (should be another easy fixe with some silicone and or foam strip). Dash rattles about the same as my RS did.

Basically, all the usual sounds from a 2 year old car.

The one thing I would worry about is the Fan Relay - maybe find out if that's been an issue on the car you're looking at before you buy. If it's been fixed, you should be good, but of course, no guarantee.

Read around a little while longer and you'll see most of what you need to know. :)

Depends on the model you get.

I love my '99. No rattles and with the 5 speed manual, well Ive never recorded less than 20 mpg city driving. Highway is 30 or higher. Acceleration is pretty good in my book.

Anyway, the only major repairs Ive incurred are my clutch, nothing you can do bout that, and my valve covers. Other than that these cars are very solid assuming you dont get one with a head gasket issue. I have 90,000 on mine and I intend to keep it for another 4 years.

The downside: Some are hard to find. I spent 9 months trying to find a GT with MT.

45,000 miles with a few creaks and rattles here and there. nothing major. exhaust is louder than the sounds. and like PhilT said, only problems have been self inflicted.

thanks for all the replies guys... i just wanted to see if there are any major issues when they get to higher mileage, but i guess not enough people have 50,000mi on the 05+ models...

doesn't sound like there is going to be anything major from the few that have though :)

thanks

Hey Balhar,

No problems w/ mine. I have almost 69,000 miles on my Legacy and it's all good :icon_bigg. Taken her to the Track, been Stage 2 for a while now. LOVE IT.

(BTW, wasn't there a similar thread on this a couple weeks ago?)

Peace~

Various people drive their cars more or less. I know for me I've only got 16,000 miles on mine since it's my DD and town car. Others drive theirs a lot more often so it just depends.

Mine will be coming up on it's 2 yr bday this october and I still have a smile on my face everytime I drive the thing. Rattles, yea there's a few but not enough to drive you crazy.

2 yrs and 16,000 miles?!

wow ... I can't fathom!

I had 16k on the clock in about 6-7 months!

The biggest PITA is re-shimming the valves, but IIRC, that is not scheduled until 105k miles. It is a major PITA.

Does this engine not have hydraulic lifters?
