steady Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 hey guys, my apologies upfront if this has been posted before. my precursory search didnt yield any fruits, so here it goes. car: '05 2.5i ltd silver. I want to increase my wheel size slightly, yet i also want to eat up some of the room bewteen the wheel and wheel wells. The only thing is, i like the smooth ride with everything OEM and don't to bounce down the road. I would like to have it just ever so slightly lowered to remove of the room between the wheels and wheel wells, but I want to keep the ride as smooth as possible. anyone recommend preformed springs over cut springs, or vice versa. thanks in advance from tEh n0ob. -steady

rc0032 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Short answer - Don't go with cut springs. Oh come on, you are old enough to be around when that was the only solution
rao Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Oh come on, you are old enough to be around when that was the only solution I'm old enough to remember before coil springs ..... Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
one69chev Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 if you cut your spring, you will alter the spring ratio and it will not ride worth a crap....if that was you're ONLY option, then maybe, but it 's hazardous and the end result will suck teets.... just buy a set from a good aftermarket comapny, there's plenty on this forum......

rougeben83 Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Get someone's used lowering springs here...they pop up once in a while at decent prices.
edkwon Posted February 25, 2007 Posted February 25, 2007 i think original poster is magically posting from the 1990s, its like reading someone asking about performance mods on his horse and carriage. Ed
NSFW Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Given a fixed-rate spring of known length L and rate R, what happens to the rate if you cut 10% off of the length? R --> R + 10% ? If it's that simple (note, I'm not saying, I'm asking) then I bet you could turn stock springs into lowering springs with rates not too different from what other companies sell.
edkwon Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 i thought all stock springs were progressive rate, so your quick calculations do not apply
Xenonk Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 cut springs? that's like so 1970s hahahaha Keefe
Guest subiecity Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 i have HnR's on myne ive had em for a good 8 months, still stiff as a board, lowered mine a good 1inch or so i love em
NSFW Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 i thought all stock springs were progressive rate, so your quick calculations do not apply Got better math? Treat a progressive spring as two springs of different stiffness if it simplifies things, that'll probably be close enough.
steady Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 cut springs? that's like so 1970s hahahaha while that sounds funny to you, you offered nothing in your reply. I tried to warn you with the subject of the thread that i was noob. your post is worthless. keep your worhtless replies to your self. thanks for those who did give me something to go on.
steady Posted February 28, 2007 Author Posted February 28, 2007 i think original poster is magically posting from the 1990s, its like reading someone asking about performance mods on his horse and carriage. Ed again, another worhtless reply. are you trying to show how big your e penis is? i tried to warn every body up-front that this was a noob post. if saying dumb things about noobs gets you off, you're a real loser.
nKoan Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 West coast lowering? Heat the springs A blow torch and a pack of cigarettes is the only way to lower a car. /not really. To the OP, I'd definitely look for springs. Swift, H-Tech, STi pinks. All good choices.
