Is the 2.5i 4EAT really that slow?

See above. I need certain features on the Limited, which doesn't come in a 5MT (at least in MY07). I don't drive that hard. I like to have passing power at highway speed, but I don't need to "push it".

With VDC coming in 2008 to the 2.5i Ltd, one of my major beefs with the 07 model has been resolved. Not really into paying the extra capital and fuel cost for a GT.

Maybe they'll make the 5MT or 5EAT available in the 2.5i Ltd? :(

Having driven a 2.5i once as a loner, and unless Subaru makes some serious power upgrades to that motor; then yes it is pretty damn slow by my book. I am not talking slow just compared to the GT, but aggravatingly slow. The kind of slow that makes a person think twice about trying to pass on a two lane highway.

Hmm, just remembered that the 4EAT also comes with an open differential at the rear. Thanks for sealing its fate though :D

Forget it. Stick 2.5i or GT it is. Now if only someone would explain to me why the 2.5i Ltd only comes in 4EAT..... ??? :(

Paying $31k CDN for a car that won't move if both tires on one side are on black ice? No thanks.

2.5i MT is slow. Don't want to even think how slow the slushbox is...

Is faster than a Honda Accord, and more fun.

Slow is all relative, but I have never feared for my life in freeway passing situations.

Why don't you go and test drive it and make your own conclusion?

2.5i 4eat is slow. However my grandmother has one, and she thinks its fast compared to her old 98 altima.

I have 98 Altima (MT) and it is definately faster than 2.5i MT.

I had a 2003 Altima, and it only felt faster on intial acceleration (from a stop) mainly because you can spin the front wheels and feel like you are launching fast. On the freeway, it felt heavier than the 2.5i.

All in all, the 2.5 Nissan engine in the 2003 also has 175 HP and I believe it is a bigger platform. The 98 was a smaller car overall.

it's no gt by any means, but it can hold it's own. I never had any highway problems with it either. It just goes once it hits 3k rpms

Drove it already, but the dealers here only let you do a very short run that involves almost no freeway at all. Its all red lights, stop signs, and other traffic. =\

Yeah, I never thought my '97 MT Altima was slow. Not fast, but not slow either. 2.4L mang

Yup. Relatively lightweight (98 is 2860 lbs., 97 even 100 lbs. less) and the decent torquey truck engine does the job well.

my mom has a 2.5i ltd manual. it's slow but can be taught to launch pretty nicely. the car has no problems on the highway or even in the 80-100 mph range. It bombs into the corners just as well as a GT though. It's very fun to drive in the twisties.

I driven the 2.5i as loaner cars. It's faster than the LGT until you pass 2000 rpms.

With both in the family... I'd say the 2.5i feels just like the GT before it hits boost. When I drive it I keep giving it gas waiting for the boost to kick in... and sometimes end up red lining it. it feels that similar.

I've driven the 2.5i outback as a loaner when having my ECU replaced under warranty (subaru's attempt to fix the stuttering, which really didn't; COBB's solution is better but that's a different story).

As others have stated, it isn't fast, but I wouldn't call it inadequate. It's just so-so. It is DEFINITELY not faster than a 2003 or newer Honda Accord as some else stated. I own a 2004 Accord (wife's car). Most published performance tests on the A/T clock it in around 8.5 ish for 0-60 times and mid 16's for 1/4 mile. This isn't going to happen in a 2.5i of any model, sedan or outback.

My wife also drove the 2.5i outback and was impressed. It really is a great car, as is the Accord.

2.5i with the stutter? Well I knew Subaru was talking out their rears when they said "normal turbo behavior," but this proves it.

2.5i Limited stick? Didn't realize such a thing existed...are you talking about a previous model year?

Right now I'm hoping they bring the 5MT to the 2.5i Limited in MY08...
