What Year was LATCH first Available?

... For example, the Explanatory Note to Section 3© describes the new federal child restraint anchorage system, referred to as Lower Anchors and Tether for Children, or "LATCH," that is required to be in certain seating positions in new vehicles and attached to new add-on child restraints as of September 1, 2002. ...

Will need to confirm this on some government site, but it looks like it was mandatory in 2002. So I would guess 2000-2001.

It appears that the law requires them starting in model year 2003, I was just curious if Subaru put them in any sooner, as many manufacturers started equipping their cars with them in 2000-2001. I guess Subaru went the budget way and didn't spend the money until the law required them too...

"Lower anchors for child restraints, each consisting of two rigid bars 6 mm in diameter and 25-50 mm long, are present in the vehicle seat bight (the crack between the seat back and seat cushion) in specified seating positions in all cars, minivans, and pick-up trucks after September 1, 2002 (model year 2003). and in many made before that date."

Our '02 Outback DOES have it.

Thanks pillboy. Seems odd that Subaru would put them in the '02 Outback and not the '02 Forester. But then again, who can figure out what the manufacturers are thinking half the time.
