Lights Will NOT Shut Off

haha, its gotta be the parking lights. ahhh, i didnt think of that. if the battery is already dead, will it be a big deal if i wait a few more hours to go jump it?

Nope, leave it a week, won't make any difference. A battery charger would be a better option than jump starting though.

Like heightsgtltd said in the second post, it's most likely the toggle switch sitting on the very top of the steering column (not the light switch on the stalk on the side). When that switch is turned on, the outside parking lights are turned on while the interior illumination stays off. They're all giving you a hard time because these threads appear all the time with the same problem.

Those wacky parking lights caught me out the other day. I was out tooling around in the snow (what fun!!!!11) and parked the car for a bit and switched those damn lights on to mark the car for other drivers. I parked in my garage after my donut run and the light from the garage door opener dampened the light from the parking lights. The next day I go out to the car and the remote wouldn't work. Nothing would. There was just the faintest glow coming from the door exit/courtesy lights. My neighbor came over and we jump started the car and bam the damn parking lights are on. D'oh!!!!!!!!!!1111

Vimy101: Many Subie have "discovered" the small push/pull switch on top of the sterring columnIf used, you can lv the parking lights on without the key being in the on position. Battery Jumps: I recall reading yrs ago--I you do have to jump start it-put it on a charger AS SOON as you can. An alt. in made to MAINTAIN a

Batt. chg. NOT recharge a batt. Many just say:"Ok.I will just drive it for 20-30 min and all be ok":..WRONG. A good way to burn up an Altenator!!

^ You can only do what you can do. I had to make a 50 minute drive immediately after the jump start. The whole ordeal stressed the electrical system but whatcha going to do? The alt. does charge the battery albeit slowly.

If you had it for that long and it died might as well just replace it. I've replaced mine due to inactivity on my car for 1 month or so and the battery was beyond rescue from a battery charger. The charger worked on my other cars so I know the battery was dead...

Cost me $60 for a better battery than the OEM.

I'm still "breaking in" the engine w/ the mileage on mine...

Every time you run a car battery all the way down it does lose some of its capacity. Just doing this once probably won't render the battery useless, but don't make it a habit. :)

Incorrect. The longer a battery is left at a dead voltage, the more damge is done to its capacity and life. However, a few more hours won't hurt.

ignore him, he'll go away.

Neither will another week.

Okay, now we're splitting hairs. My point was to state that the longer a battery is left in a discharged state, the worse it is. It was my impression you were implying that time made no difference.

I left mine on once - had no idea how they came on in the first place (I now think the car wash people did it while wiping stuff down).

I was going to go for a quick drive and I see that my lights were on - thought someone was trying to steal the car and I ran toward it - nobody inside - alarm still armed.

But I figured it out pretty fast how to turn them off :D

How much would it have cost Subaru to put a low votage cutoff attached to this switch?

Why don't car companies do this? The cost of the battery is much less than the aggravation of having a car battery die in the middle of nowhere.

It would cost anyone $70, installed in 10 minutes.
